TX Optics Consolidated Manufacturing Center is seeking a dedicated CMM Technician / Programmer eager to learn optics manufacturing for a 1st shift position. The technician will be primarily responsible for setting up and operating Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM), performing a variety of inspection operations to verify the quality and accuracy of optical components. This role may require the candidate to set up and operate other optical manufacturing equipment. The successful candidate will be able to work in a fast-paced shop with a low-volume, high-mix environment.
What you will do:
- Set up and operate CMM to conduct precise measurements of optical components, tooling, and fixtures, including:
- Perform routine qualification, as well as maintain equipment to ensure accurate and reliable performance, including regular cleaning procedures.
- Perform complex inspections on purchased mechanical parts, components, and assemblies, as required for incoming quality inspections.
- Assess and interpret measurement data, including output data and graphical element data to verify compliance with specifications outlined in drawings and work instructions.
- Read and interpret optical component specifications from drawings.
- Independently set up and operate various optics manufacturing equipment, as required.
- Collaborate closely with manufacturing engineering to develop programs for CMM using Calypso.
- Collaborate with Engineering to develop inspection techniques and custom fixturing.
- Adhere to all environment, health, and safety rules, requirements, and procedures.
- Maintain work area in a clean and orderly manner.
- Operate interferometers or other optical measurement instruments, as needed.
- Support Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing initiatives across the value stream.
- Independently manage CMM operational queues, accomplish tasks, and solve problems.
- Job requires standing 60-80% and walking short distances 10-20%, bending at the waist 20%, lifting and/or carrying < 15lbs.
- Dexterity to handle optical components with care.
- Schedule: 9/80 (every other Friday off)
- Shift Hours: First Shift is typically 6:00 AM to 3:30 PM, but must be able to work any shift, including a compressed work schedule.
Qualifications we require:
- Typically requires HS diploma (or equivalent, e.g. G.E.D. in the US) or vocational/technical education in related discipline with a minimum of 4 years’ of relevant experience
- Relevant experience is performing CMM operations or using CMM software
- Experience using precision hand measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, gage pins, etc.)
- Microsoft Office and use of paperless systems (email, spreadsheets, and/or databases, etc).

Qualifications we prefer:
- Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) Skills
- CMM programming (Zeiss systems), and using Calypso software or other CMM programming software
- Strong multi-tasking skills; must be able to run multiple machines in a cell environment.
- Experience with optical components and/or diamond turning CNC operations.
- Experience with surface quality standards, and inspection methods.
