Long Creek Youth Development Center in South Portland, ME, is seeking a dedicated professional with an established record of success as the Deputy Superintendent of Programming. This position is critical to ensuring that all residents experience a fair, equitable, and responsive environment that fosters a positive and successful return to their communities. The successful candidate is responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of all programming within the facility, while identifying and establishing community based supports critical to success. You will lead a dedicated, passionate multi-disciplinary team that identifies varied, individualized, and positive restorative experiences at our facility for youth up to age 21.

Minimum Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree in social work, criminal justice, business, public administration, or a related field.
             -AND-

Six (6) years of progressively responsible experience in social work, corrections, and/or law enforcement or institutional/community mental health work that includes four (4) years of experience in a managerial and/or advanced administrative capacity.

Related experience may be substituted for educational requirements on a year-for-year basis.

Preference will be given to candidates with experience administering the case management and programmatic functions that this position oversees.

Responsibilities

As an integral part of our senior leadership team, you will be tasked with leading our youth and facility staff toward greater understanding of the unique needs of adolescents. In this position you will:

• Oversee all aspects of programming including treatment, education, and activities provided in the facility as well as community-based services available to youth closer to their homes.
• Plan, develop, coordinate, and support youth programming and treatment services.
• Participate in long-range planning for new programs, goals, and objectives.
• Ensure all programs, services, and activities adhere to best practice standards.
• Oversee administration of youth assessments and development of treatment plans
• Collaborate closely with all other departments within the facility to meet the mission of creating a safe environment for change.
• Work with other youth-serving State Agencies and community-based organizations to provide individualized plans for meeting the needs of each youth served at Long Creek Youth Development Center.
• Identify and establish community-based programming, supports, and targeted treatment identified for each individual youth following the use of validated assessment tools.
• Be an advocate for needed resources.
• Utilize programs and techniques to address barriers to successful achievement of treatment goals.
• Oversee and manage personnel matters, case management, and resident programs and services.
• Provide ongoing support to staff and youth as related to their experiences at the facility.
• Directly supervise Program Managers, Psychiatric Social Workers, Teachers and other education staff, and department heads responsible for providing youth programming.

• Knowledge of trauma-informed care, and strong communication skills and strong understanding of adolescent brain development.
• Analytical mindset with the ability to identify and analyze complex issues, reach logical conclusions, and make sound recommendations.
• Ability to:
• Apply knowledge of modern juvenile correctional practices to provide effective programs, services, wand techniques that promote the Maine Model of Corrections, and remove barriers to success.
• Lead and motivate staff in a diverse and dynamic environment.
• Utilize a trauma-focused approach to treatment, education, and programming offered in a secure environment.
• Interpret and enforce legal mandates, policies, rules, and best practice standards.
