Essential Functions:
- Under general supervision, independently performs a variety of skilled practical nursing functions for physically ill, disabled, or geriatric residents in an assigned nursing unit and shift.
- Observes, records, and reports to physicians, registered nurses, or the supervisory nurse the symptoms, reactions, and changes in residents conditions.
- Provides for the emotional, physical comfort and security of residents.
- Assists in maintaining working and living areas and supplies in good order.
- Assists in providing guidance to nursing assistants relative to nursing techniques.
- Performs selected nursing functions in situations which do not require the specialized knowledge and skill of a registered nurse.
- Carries out assigned nursing policies and procedures.
- Administers medication, injections, and treatments.
- Takes and records temperatures, pulses, respirations, oxygen saturation, and blood pressures.
- Performs other duties as assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Requires Illinois license as a practical nurse.
- Requires one (1) year of practical nursing experience.
This class is included as an Upward Mobility Program credential title.

- Requires ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related policies and guidance.
- Requires ability acquire and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate.
- Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.
- Requires ability to attend seminars, conferences, and trainings to stay current on methods, tools, ideologies, or other industry related topics relevant to the job duties.
- Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
- This position is considered heavy work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(d)). Heavy work involves lifting no more than 100 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
