The Tacoma Rescue Mission (TRM) is a faith-based nonprofit organization whose mission is to offer God’s help, hope, and healing to our neighbors in need. We are proud to have served the Tacoma and Pierce County communities since 1912. For over 100 years we have continued to serve in the name of Christ, while emphasizing the dignity of each person who enters our doors. Job Purpose


Directs the Finance Department for all TRM financial reporting requirements, both internal and external. The position also directs the Payroll, Accounts Payable/Receivable, and Purchasing functions. Responsible for developing and implementing accounting and financial reporting policies and procedures.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements long and short-range plans, strategies, and policies that support TRM's financial strategy in alignment with its mission, vision, values, and objectives.
  • Provides strategic consultation on financial matters to others, i.e., the Executive Director, Board of Directors, Senior Leadership Team, etc.
  • Directs the annual budgeting process and provides regular financial forecasts to guide decision-making.
  • Prepares accurate and timely financial statements, reports, and analyses and presents information to the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and other key partners to support awareness and decision-making.
  • Oversees grant budgeting, reporting, compliance, and proposals to support the acquisition of funding from donors, government agencies, etc.
  • Manages the organization’s cash flow to support the organization’s financial stability including investment strategies.
  • Oversees the organization's annual financial audits, maintains compliance with regulatory requirements, and ensures adherence to accounting best practices.
  • Effectively partners with TRM’s outside CPA firm and other business partners.
  • Anticipates significant changes, trends, and regulations related to financial systems, processes, and controls and institutes improvements to enhance the organization’s efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Identifies financial risks and communicates and implements appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Collaborates with others, i.e., Executive Director, Board of Directors, and other departments to provide financial guidance and support.
  • Serves on the senior leadership team and other committees; collaborating to achieve organization-wide goals and objectives.
