Job Summary

Nassau’s 10-week, summer internship program in our Hartford, CT office prepares college students for careers on the cutting edge of insurance and asset management.

Internship opportunity for a college student to learn more about the Middle Market CLO, Structured Products & Derivatives, and the Energy & Infrastructure teams while gaining invaluable hands-on experience. Assist the portfolio manager and analysts in the Middle Market CLO, Structured Products, Derivatives, and Energy & Infrastructure teams with the sourcing, credit underwriting and deal analysis of new transactions as well as the deep-dive surveillance of Middle Market CLO and other structured products, and the Energy & Infrastructure portfolio.  This role will include but not limited to the following day-to-day needs and projects: 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Compile and evaluate weekly new issue deal pipeline for Middle Market CLOs and other structured products (e.g., CBOs, CFOs, CMOs, direct lending) 
  • Monitor rating changes including refinancing/resets and monthly internal watchlist for CLOs and other structured products 
  • Assist in the manager, collateral and scenario analysis of new deals using Intex and preparation of deal write-ups for CIO approval and investment committee review 
  • Assist in the monthly deal surveillance analysis --- using Intex and Moody’s Structured Finance (SF) Portal --- of existing Middle Market CLOs and other structured products in terms of performance metrics and trends 
  • Develop and implement a shared folder for Energy & Infrastructure transaction documentation and portfolio surveillance/monitoring 
  • Assist in the preparation of the monthly deep-dive surveillance and portfolio quality (PQR) reports for management review and discussion 
  • Assist in the pricing analysis of the weekly derivative transactions with respect to execution levels versus option budget    
  • Participate in weekly sector team meetings and due diligence calls with deal arrangers and Middle Market CLO managers of both new and existing investments. 

              Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

              • College student working toward a Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Mathematics with a minor in Business or Master’s degree in Finance or Risk Management.  
              • 1-2 years of job relevant internship experience, preferably in financial services industry  
              • Analytical, detail-oriented with excellent research skills 
              • Ability to collaboratively solve problems using verbal and written skills  
              • Ability to organize work and self and execute a wide range of tasks in a logical fashion 
              • Good decision making and documentation skills to interact effectively with team members
