About the Role
The Senior Manager of SOX Compliance will lead the company’s Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance and will be responsible for the scoping, training, testing and reporting for the company’s SOX compliance program. This highly visible role will work with cross-functional leadership and external consultants to design effective and efficient controls over financial reporting, recommends process/controls/systems improvement changes for any gaps and deficiencies identified through SOX testing, and facilitates the remediation and monitoring strategy to comply with SOX. This position will report directly to the VP, Corporate Controller.
Responsibilities
- Lead the entire SOX process from planning, scoping, designing and testing of controls, and assistance with deficiency remediation efforts as needed to ensure IPO readiness
- Support and create SOX documentation including flow charts, risk control matrix, control descriptions, control testing
- Demonstrate ability to build productive relationships with all levels of personnel throughout the organization
- Lead walkthroughs and risk assessments with process owners, review documentation, and assess results to ensure adequate control design and identification of "key" controls
- Assist process owners in the preparation and on-going maintenance of SOX process documentation and process flowcharts
- Perform segregation of duties review
- Ability to understand business risks, challenges and recognize opportunities for process improvements
- Work with 3rd party consultants to complete SOX review and testing for the various business processes
- Coordinate and work with external auditors as needed to facilitate an efficient audit of internal controls
- Provide guidance and trainings for team members in Accounting, FP&A, IT, and other cross-functional teams on topics such as SOX documentation, ITGC (including access controls and change management), proper reconciliations, close checklist, SOX compliance, and SOC reporting
- Evaluate changes in process, people, and technology that may have an impact to internal control over financial reporting, including process changes, new accounting pronouncements, and system implementations
- Administration of SOX software and maintenance of internal control documentation
- Review the quarterly SOX certification process
- Assist on special projects as needed
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with a major in accounting or finance required
- 10+ years of relevant experience within a public company and/or public accounting, IPO experience preferred
- Big 4 public accounting experience is a must. Other professional certification a strong plus (CIA, CISA, CFE)
- Knowledge of accounting and CRM systems such as NetSuite, Salesforce preferred
- Detailed knowledge of COSO framework, US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), PCAOB and Sarbanes Oxley requirements
- Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to influence others
- Ability to implement & drive effective system of internal controls with a public company mind-set
- Dedicated team player who is able to withstand the high demands of a fast-paced environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential
- Strong planning and organizational skills
