Overview

The U.S. Bank Spend Management Accounting team is looking for a well-rounded Lead Software Engineer with a track record of building delightful customer experiences at scale. Key Responsibilities:

  • Backend Development: Design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs
  • Monolith & Microservices Architecture: Have good experience of working with monolith systems. Experience of microservices architectures to enhance system scalability, flexibility and reliability
  • AWS Cloud Services: Leverage AWS cloud services (e.g., EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, etc)  for deploying and managing applications
  • System Design & Architecture: Participate in and contribute to the design and architectural decisions of the backend systems to ensure alignment with business goals and technical requirements
  • Performance Optimization: Identify bottlenecks and optimize system performance, ensuring high availability and low latency
  • Building & Managing System Observability: Leverage Spunk, SignalFX or similar products to build & maintain systems observability by creating dashboards, alerts and runbooks
  • Code Quality: Write clean, maintainable and well-documented code adhering to industry best practices and internal standards
  • Collaboration: Work closely with front-end engineers, DevOps engineers, product managers and other stakeholders to deliver end-to-end solutions
  • Testing & Debugging: Implement comprehensive test strategies including unit testing, integration testing to maintain & improve product quality and debug issues as they arise.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay updated with latest industry trends and technologies to continuously improve the existing codebase and development processes.

Basic qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent work experience 
  • Expertise in AWS, Java Spring, Backend Services Development, Event-Driven Architecture, Microservices & Monolith Applications development

Preferred Skills/Experience

  • Demonstrated track record on leading projects as a lead backend engineer
  • Experience leading software architecture design for complex distributed systems and applications.
  • Skilled in designing modern event-driven architecture into the product and driving for the highest standards
  • Expert in design patterns, software architecture principles, object-oriented programming, Java, Spring Framework, and persistence frameworks and technologies.
  • Experience with Docker, RESTful web services, and asynchronous programming in microservices and other modern architecture.
  • Experience with building enterprise software using cloud-based products/services
  • Strong problem-solving skills, troubleshooting, and debugging skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to function in a demanding environment.
  • Ability to grasp new product features early in their development cycle when documentation is often limited or unavailable.
  • Expertise in creating schemas and writing efficient SQL queries on a relational database.
  • Experience with software monitoring tools such as Splunk, CloudWatch, Datadog, etc.
  • Experience working in an agile development (Scrum) environment with a customer-centric mindset.
  • Ability to work independently yet fully collaborate with remote teams, technical leadership, and architects at the company.
  • Strong business understanding to be able to bridge technical and business priorities.
  • Clear, concise, and effective verbal and written communicator with ability to explain and evangelize complex ideas clearly across org boundaries.
