Title: Business Data Governance Lead, Business Data Stewardship Lead, Business Data Governance & Trust Lead

Position Summary

We are on an exciting journey to improve the quality and accessibility of our data to empower business users to make nimble meaningful business decisions utilizing data. To accomplish this, we are looking to hire a senior individual to shape the bank’s data policy and data governance operating model. This role is ideal for a seasoned professional who has experienced challenges in how data is entered in systems, aggregated/transformed, and consumed for reporting/analytics. The ideal candidate may be an end user of data or a frustrated Data Steward who is passionate about improving the quality of data in the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with business and technology stakeholders to ensure decisions align with strong data governance and the data policy
  • Guide business stakeholders on interpretation of the data policy
  • Recommend changes to improve the data policy to enable nimble business decisions while managing data risk
  • Identify where process gaps, manual workarounds, or inconsistent practices lead to data quality issues
  • Educate business users on the requirements outline in the data policy, including why strong data governance enables nimble business decisions and AI
  • Participate in data steward / data governance forums to understand current data challenges across business units
  • Improve transparency and confidence in how data is sourced and defined across the organization
  • Review audit issues and management self-identified issues to determine which issues impact the consumption of or quality of data

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of banking experience related to data
  • Strong, hands‑on knowledge of how data is entered in systems, aggregated/transformed, and consumed for reporting/analytics
  • Strong collaboration, influence, and problem‑solving skills. Comfort working across teams and driving change without direct authority
  • Curiosity and passion for improving how business data is created and used
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Detail-oriented with a strong sense of accountability

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with data policies (e.g., data quality, metadata, lineage, data incidents)
  • Familiarity with data governance platforms such as Collibra

What this role is not

  • Not a data engineering, analytics, or technical role
  • Not a pure compliance second line role
  • No prior data experience or data background is required
  • No coding, modeling, or system development responsibilities
  • No requirement for formal data management experience
