Guthrie Cortland Medical Center is hiring a full-time Charge Registered Nurse for our hospital-based Long-Term Care / Rehab unit, offering up to a $50,000 sign-on bonus and a consistent Monday–Friday day shift schedule.
This is an ideal opportunity for experienced RNs who want to take the next step into leadership while moving away from the unpredictability of hospital-based care. As a Charge RN, you’ll play a key role in guiding the clinical team, supporting staff, and ensuring high-quality care—while working in a more structured, team-oriented environment.
You’ll lead within an 80-bed long-term care and short-term rehab unit located inside the hospital, giving you the support of a full interdisciplinary team without the constant pace and turnover of acute care.

Position Overview:
- Role: Charge Registered Nurse (RN)
- Schedule: Five 8-hour shifts per week
- Hours: 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM
- Rotation: Every other weekend & holiday
- Setting: Hospital-based Long-Term Care / Short-Term Rehab Unit (80 beds)

What You’ll Do (High-Level):
- Lead and support nursing staff on shift
- Serve as a clinical resource and escalation point
- Coordinate patient care and workflow across the unit
- Partner with providers and interdisciplinary teams
- Ensure quality, safety, and regulatory compliance

About the Unit:
- 80-bed hospital-based Resident Care Facility
- Mix of long-term residents and short-term rehab patients
- Full interdisciplinary team (RNs, LPNs, CNAs, Social Work, Educator support)

Job Summary:
Responsible for delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Directs and guides patient teaching and the activities of ancillary personnel while maintaining standards of professional nursing. Understands and adheres to GCMC’s Compliance Standards as they appear in GCMC’s Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy. Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and GCMC regulations, laws, and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.
Experience:
- Entry level-graduate per Education requirements
- Specialty Units-At least 1 year of medical-surgical nursing preferred. (i.e. ICU, Maternity, Psych)
Skills:
- See core competencies and unit specific competencies
Licensure/Certificates/Certification:
- Current NYS license to perform as a registered professional nurse
- Current BLS-CPR certification required (or within first 30 days of employment)
- Specialty Unit - Maternity – Neonatal Resuscitation Certification within 6 months of employment
- Specialty Unit –ICU- ACLS within 6 months of hire

- Performs nursing admission assessment thoroughly and within timeframe. Documents the admission assessment accurately and completely.
