The Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences at the University of Delaware invites applications for three open positions as Assistant or Associate Professors (Continuing Track) at the new Institute for Community Mental Health, to begin August 16, 2025. The faculty members’ primary roles will be a rich mix of activities including, providing clinical supervision and training to students in our innovative new master’s degree program in clinical science, teaching core curriculum in that program, as well as in our Ph.D. program, and supervising clinical research projects for M.S. students. In addition, if interest and experiences are relevant, there is an opportunity for one candidate to be appointed Director of our quickly expanding community-serving Institute for Community Mental Health-Clinic. We especially welcome applicants who value increasing access to evidence-based treatments for the diverse populations served at our clinic, including those who are bi-lingual.

At the new Institute for Community Mental Health (ICMH), we are transforming the mental and behavioral health landscape through the development, implementation, and dissemination of evidence-based mental health practices. Our mission is to generate new knowledge relevant to the provision of mental health care, to foster impactful connections between clinical psychological science and the community, and to increase access to science-based care for our communities.

ICMH stands as a beacon of innovation and collaboration, bridging the gap between research and real-world application of the best science our field has to offer.

ICMH includes three entities aimed at impacting the mental health needs of individuals and society ensures that we deliver high-quality care, engage in cutting-edge clinical research, and train the next generation of clinical scientists and practitioners:

1. Center for Training, Evaluation & Community Collaboration (C-TECC)

The C-TECC works closely with community stakeholders to apply scientific solutions to pressing mental health challenges in mental health systems of care. Through a combination of research, training, and evaluation, C-TECC helps to elevate the quality of mental health services in the community. Our focus areas include:

- Training community providers in evidence-based practices.

- Evaluating and improving community mental health services.

- Conducting research that informs new and more effective interventions.

 

2. ICMH-Clinic (ICMH-C)

The ICMH-C provides high-quality, evidence-based mental health care to the community through expertly trained licensed clinicians, university faculty, and graduate student trainees. The ICMH-C:

-Provides the community evidence-based psychotherapy and diagnostic assessments for all age groups.

-Trains graduate students and professionals in evidence-based mental/behavioral health services.

-Facilitates interdisciplinary research and integrated care with other STAR Tower clinics.

 

3. Master’s Program in Clinical Psychological Science

Our Master’s Program in Clinical Psychological Science prepares students to think like scientists while training as clinicians. Our program emphasizes the integration of clinical science with community practice. Through this innovative program, we aim to:

- Provide state of the science clinical and research training focused on the interdependence of laboratory work in our field and clinical applications.

-Develop a well-trained workforce to meet the pressing needs of society for psychological services

- Train clinicians from underrepresented backgrounds, including bilingual professionals to serve those populations that often do not have access to care.

- Build capacity for impactful clinical research that addresses real-world problems.
