Summary
Assist with GIS tasks as needed such as graphic editing, line cleaning, topology building, database updating, data research, creation and maintenance. Assist user departments as well as GIS department with drafting and data entry as needed. Assist with acquisition and quality control of GIS data.
Pay Range: $15.00 per hour
Work Schedule: 20 hours a week
Essential Job Functions
Assist with GIS tasks as needed such as graphic editing, line cleaning, topology building, database update, and plotting using ESRI’s suite of GIS products.
Assist user departments as well as GIS department with drafting and data entry as needed.
Minimum Requirements
High School Diploma, some college-level coursework in geographic information systems preferred.
Computer aptitude required.
One semester of a college GIS Software course or 1 year of GIS software usage being self-taught.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills
The successful Intern candidate should be familiar with vector and raster geographic data types and understand the concepts of map projections and geo-rectifications.
The candidate should also understand the various sources of geographic information, such as paper or mylar maps and remotely sensed data including satellite and aerial imaging.
The candidate should be familiar with digitizing methods and graphic editing concepts.
Physical Requirements
Work at desk with personal computer for 20 hours per week.
Occasional travel in personal vehicle to other city offices.
Some field work may be necessary for verifying addresses and other data validation.
