Contractors Segment - Remote in Texas

Senior Underwriter Job Summary

Key Responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Senior Underwriter to join our Guaranteed Cost Construction Department.  In this role, you will be responsible for applying your sales knowledge and underwriting expertise to in assessing risk to foster premium growth and profitability in accordance with our construction risk appetite.  You’ll work closely with C&F brokers and agents to manage relationships and provide tailored insurance solutions that meet the unique needs of their construction contractor clients. 

 

The position will report directly to the Territory AVP/Underwriting Director for the assigned Region. “Check In’s to Engage” on the performance of the employee/territory are ongoing, with CITE (Performance) Evaluations conducted quarterly.      

 

  • Marketing:  Source and qualify new business accounts from authorized producers. 
  • Underwriting:  Make informed Underwriting decisions based on thorough analysis, ensuring compliance with company guidelines and regulatory requirements.  In addition, maintaining proper Underwriting file documentation.
  • Desk/Territory Management:  Meet profitability, renewal retention, rate, and written premium goals as determined by the Territory Business Plan.
  • Client Engagement:  Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, agents, and insureds by providing exceptional service and support through our Stewardship Program.
  • Market Analysis:  Stay updated on industry trends, market conditions, and competitor activities so as to identify opportunities and threats.
  • Policy Management:  Oversee the issuance, renewal, and modification of insurance policies, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of delivery.
  • Collaboration:  Work closely with the Claims, Risk Engineering,

Actuarial, Audit, and Financial Operations Departments to develop comprehensive insurance solutions throughout the product life cycle.  In addition, cross-selling other segments of the C&F brand.

  • Training and Mentorship: Provide guidance and mentorship to other Underwriters and Underwriting Assistants so as to foster a culture of continuous learning and development.

 

 

Additional Responsibilities

  • Adhere to the assigned Underwriting Letter of Authority.
  • Assist in developing annual business goals for assigned Agents/Producers.  Responsible for analyzing results and maintaining accountability of agency partners within the department.
  • Has an in-depth knowledge of Contractors Segment appetite, products, and services.
  • Can clearly articulate the Contractors segment’s value proposition.
  • Travel as required. (15%-20%)
  • Other duties as assigned.

Recommended Education & Requirements   

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of Underwriting and Sales experience in the construction insurance sector, with a focus on casualty and property guaranteed cost policies.
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, or a related field.  Professional designations such as CPCU or CRIS are preferred.
