About the role

The General Maintenance and Service Worker maintains and cares for Bread Loaf campus grounds and facilities.

This position is a full-time, benefit eligible position working for the Rikert Outdoor Center from December to March. From April to November picking up and delivering materials, furniture and equipment to campus buildings and facilities. The hiring range is $19.92 - $24.40/hour.

Core Responsibilities (April - November):

  • Operates equipment related to ground maintenance and building maintenance including but not limited to commercial lawn mowers, utility vehicles, snow plowing equipment, tractors, trash compactors and various small engine tools.
  • Performs routine well, sprinkler, sewer, and chlorine readings and maintains records as instructed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to assist department in obtaining and maintaining its mission.
  • Performs associated facilities services maintenance work as requested.
  • Assist with winterizing of buildings.
  • Performs miscellaneous carpentry and plumbing repairs to buildings or fixtures as needed.

Winter Ski Season (December - March):

The Ski Area Lead, Snowmaking at the Rikert Nordic Center is responsible for supervising and supporting the Snow Making team, ensuring that team members perform their work according to established procedures and are properly equipped. This role includes managing operations equipment, reporting safety hazards, and providing ongoing training to employees. The position may also involve assisting with various ski area operations as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support the Snow Making team members.
  • Ensure team members perform work assignments according to established procedures, practices, and policies.
  • Manage operations equipment, ensuring proper maintenance, requisition, and replacement as needed.
  • Report all equipment maintenance and replacement scheduling needs to the Manager of Rikert Outdoor Center.
  • Report safety hazards or violations and personnel problems to the supervisor.
  • Provide ongoing training for team employees.
  • Communicate effectively and appropriately with individuals of diverse backgrounds.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to assist the department in maintaining its mission.
  • Assist with associated Ski Area operations work as requested.

Requirements

  • Must have knowledge of proper use of equipment and the ability and willingness to learn to maintain all equipment used.
  • High school education preferred. Organizational skills required.
  • Must have a valid driver's license, have ability to get a college license and a good driving record.
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple tasks and be able to respond to a high volume of requests.
  • General building maintenance, lawn mowing, trailer use and snow removal is preferred.
  • Prior snowmaking experience.
  • Good interpersonal skills and must be a self-starter. Must be able to communicate both verbally and in written communications.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to do the following tasks occasionally: lift up to 100 lbs.; push up to 110 lbs.; pull up to 190 lbs.; carry up to 100 lbs.; crouch/kneel, twist/turn, reach and balance; use finger to operate controls on power tools or truck.
    Must be able to do the following tasks on rare occasions: crawl, sit and withstand vibration of hand drills on rare occasions.
  • Must be able to do the following tasks frequently: lift 40-80 lbs.; push and pull up to 50 lbs.; carry 40-80 lbs.; bend, squat and climb stairs.
  • Must be able to do the following tasks constantly: walking, standing, material handling (such as grip force of 80 lbs. with one hand to pull heavy loads on a dolly).
