DESCRIPTION

Michael Baker International is hiring a Senior Bridge Engineer (Civil Engineer III) for our Richmond, VA OR Virginia Beach, VA office. Join our growing bridge practice and make a significant impact on critical infrastructure development and maintenance. 

The successful candidate will have the upward mobility to develop into a Technical or Project Manager, ensuring that their career path is both ambitious and rewarding.

• Performing and managing structure tasks on conventional and complex multi-discipline projects from design through construction
• Performing and managing structure load ratings on conventional and complex bridges using hand calculations through finite element methods
• Leading, performing, and checking bridge and structure designs to ensure accuracy with design codes and client requirements
• Coordinating and communicating with other fields effectively
• Developing and adhering to scope, schedule, and budget for structure tasks
• Supporting bridge and structure proposal development through strong technical writing
• Developing and implementing creative and innovative cost-saving modifications to conventional designs through construction/value engineering opportunities
• Crafting and teaching bridge design training courses and reference manuals
• Assisting Project Managers in ensuring that task and project schedules and budgets are met
• Preparing scope of work and labor hour requirements for proposals
• Assisting with marketing/business development initiatives

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor's in Civil or Structural Engineering; Master's degree is highly preferred
• 12-20 years of experience in structural engineering
• Professional Engineer (PE) licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia or ability to acquire within six (6) months
• Strong all-around theoretical knowledge of structural engineering principles
• Experience with AASHTO LRFD, AISC, ACI and other North American design codes
• Experience with the design of multiple bridge types in concrete and steel, and knowledge of staged construction analysis
• Solid background and understanding of Structural engineering software packages like: MDX, Leap Concrete Connect, MIDAS, FB Pier, etc.
• Preferred experience with engineering design software, i.e., programs such as LPILE, CSI Bridge, Open Bridge Designer, MicroStation V8i, etc.
• Experience with VDOT bridge office practices and standards is preferred

COMPENSATION

The salary range for this position is approximately $93,850 to $148,000. Please note that the actual compensation may vary based on factors such as education, qualifications, experience, abilities, and physical work location
