About the role

The Role:

The Statistical Innovation & Data Analytics (SiDA) team is advancing AI-powered clinical data systems to accelerate decision-making, regulatory readiness, and operational efficiency across development programs.

This co-op role offers hands-on experience at the intersection of:

  • Clinical data analytics (EDC, SDTM, ADaM, translational data)

  • AI/ML research and applied modeling

  • LLM-based and agentic system development

  • Moving prototypes to scalable, production-oriented, compliant AI applications

The student will contribute to the design, evaluation, and implementation of AI-driven tools that support statisticians, programmers, and clinical development teams.

Here’s What You’ll Do:

  • Support development of AI/ML-powered tools and agentic applications for clinical data analysis and automation, including tool-calling, RAG and agent skill-based architectures

  • Contribute to agentic workflows and accountable LLM implementations in a regulated environment

  • Explore and evaluate machine learning and language model approaches for clinical and statistical use cases

  • Assist in building scalable, modular AI pipelines integrated with clinical datasets

  • Develop data visualizations, dashboards, and analytic applications to support clinical insights

  • Collaborate with statisticians, programmers, and data scientists to translate business needs into technical solutions

  • Contribute to documentation, validation considerations, and reproducibility

  • Collaborate with scientists and statistical programmers to solve challenging problems in clinical data lifecycles and harmonize various data sources and formats using clinical data standards.

Here’s What You’ll Need (Basic Qualifications) 

  • Master, doctoral or advanced undergraduate Student in statistics, biostatistics, computational biology, health informatics, data science or computer science related disciplines.

  • Excellent statistical knowledge and quantitative skills with the ability to apply the knowledge to solve scientific and clinical problems.

  • Experience in coding in Python (required) and R (preferred); demonstrated ability in cloud computing platforms, containerization, backend development, and SQL.

  • Experience with GenAI/LLM including post-training, deployment, and agent development; Machine Learning knowledge and experience for solving real-world problems.

  • Hands-on experience in creating visualization, dashboards, and toolkits.

  • Interest in building practical AI solutions in clinical or biomedical settings

  • Outstanding analytical, engineer thinking and communication skills (verbal and written).

  • This position is site-based, requiring you to be at Moderna’s site full-time. This position is not eligible for remote work.

The salary range for this role is $20.00 - $60.00. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An individual’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, performance, and business or organizational needs. The successful candidate may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, other incentive compensation, or equity award, subject to company plan eligibility criteria and individual performance.
