Medical Assistant - Casual (Urgent Care, Waterford Lakes) Casual

Nemours is seeking a Medical Assistant (Urgent Care - Kissimmee), Part-time CASUAL, to join our Urgent Care team in Kissimmee, Florida. This facility operates Sunday thru Saturday from 10:00pm - 8:00pm. This position will require some weekend and holiday work.  Travel to all urgent care locations required. **$1,000 Sign on Bonus offered (external applicants only)

Nemours pediatric urgent care centers provide a kid-friendly, family-centered experience for families seeking urgent care services at night and on weekends. With three centers conveniently located in the greater Orlando area, we deliver exceptional Nemours care to families where - and when - they need it most.

This position is responsible for assisting the Shift physician, ARNP/PA and/or Shift Supervisor in providing quality pediatric patient care on shift.  

• Ensure cleanliness of offices and clinical environment.
• Creates a welcoming environment and acts as a patient advocate.
• Observes, assesses, triages and addresses patient’ and family needs patients according to protocol.
• Provides quality patient care:
  • Obtains vital signs and patient history.
  • Administers medication.
  • Performs and/or assists in procedures.
  • Performs labs on patient samples and lab controls according to protocol.
  • Gives aftercare instruction, discharges/transfer patients.
• Documents all assessments, actions, care and treatment responses, and communications utilizing patient’s appropriate EMR, logs and requisitions.
• Executes physician orders.
• Makes follow-up calls from the previous day(s).
• Cleans patient care rooms, bathrooms, floor and removes trash.
• Attends training sessions and meetings as required.
• Must travel to other sites when needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Opening Procedures:

• Ensure clinic is clean and ready for shift.
• Prepare all computers for shift.
  • Unlock and start up the laptops and turn on all computers.
  • Perform call back to patients from previous shift. Notify Shift Supervisor with any concerns.
  • Assist UC with registration of patients.

Patient Care:

Direct

• Performs triage and anticipates patient and MD needs.
• Documents in Computer—triage, medication and administration, procedures, additional assessments/notes as needed, discharge.
• Documents all labs in EMR, logs and requisitions.
• Follow orders and protocols per MD and Nemours protocol, in a timely fashion with professionalism, courtesy, competence and accuracy.
• Obtains and/or performs lab specimens and controls according to protocol.
• Administer medications per NCUC protocol.
• Performs splinting and dressings.
• Sets up and assists with patient procedures including laceration repair and others as directed by MD, SS, and/or P&P.
• Discharges patient/family providing written and verbal instructions and ensuring understanding by parent/guardian/patient. Involve MD or SS if any questions arise.

Indirect:

• Understands, performs, and documents all lab controls in appropriate logs according to COLA standards.
• Understands and performs maintenance on CBC machine.
• Understands and performs autoclaving including cleaning of instruments and maintenance of machine.
• Ensures site is well stocked.
• Miscellaneous: Knows all equipment and supplies and their applications.  Has understanding of all P&P, manuals and handbooks.

Job Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• One (1) year pediatric Medical Assistant experience or equivalent work experience required.
• Working knowledge of Medical Terminology. 
• Current American Heart Association BLS certification required. 
• Travel to all urgent care locations required for coverage.
