The Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and qualified Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN4) for the Coyote Ridge Corrections Center (CRCC) located outside the Tri Cities in Connell, Washington.

As a response to an increase in fentanyl related deaths in the community, research shows that access to Medication for opioid use disorder (MOUD) treatment prior to release from prison saves lives and likely reduces recidivism. This position will include educating patients about medication for addiction treatment (MAT), assisting patients and team members to include patient care and administrative tasks within nursing scope of practice. This position requires coordination of services with DOC Health Services, Prisons, Reentry and Community Corrections staff. In collaboration with DOC Health Services intake and reentry teams, job duties focus on the Department’s Strategic Goal of Continuity of Care Planning for Health Services patients.

This position facilitates nursing components of MOUD and related Addiction Medicine services in prisons to ensure eligible patients receive access to medications and patient centered discharge planning. This position is critical to support incarcerated individuals with maintaining or improving their wellness by bridging healthcare ‘community to prison’ and ‘prison to community’, facilitating access to services needed during transition. The MOUD Nurse is part of a multidisciplinary team.

Ensure patient MOUD services are provided safely and effectively in the correctional setting, within the scope of practice defined by state law and administrative code.

Tasks include:

  • Assists with education to patients on substance use disorder basics as well as available treatment options, including currently available medication options within DOC system and how to access these treatments
  • Provide education to patients who are starting medications for treatment of opioid use disorder with expected side effects, and follow up with patients at regular intervals during medication induction and maintenance
