Senior Mechanical Systems Technician

Summary

The Senior Mechanical Systems Technician will be responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing mechanical systems and equipment used in tire testing operations. This role ensures optimal performance of machinery, minimizes downtime, and supports a safe and efficient testing environment. 

The Senior Mechanical Systems Technician owns critical mechanical and maintenance processes and areas of responsibility. 

Responsibilities

• Leads and completes assembly, installation and alignment of critical mechanical components for tire testing machines and related equipment. 

• Reads and interprets technical drawings, blueprints, and equipment manuals. 

• Perform advanced preventative and predictive maintenance on mechanical systems, including bearings, shafts, and hydraulic systems. 

• Diagnose and repair complex mechanical failures, ensuring minimal disruption to testing schedules. 

• Fabricates or modifies parts using welding, machining and other advances metalworking techniques. 

• Ensures the proper fit and alignment of components during assembly and repair. 

• Follows all safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized work area. 

• Complies with all OSHA and company safety standards. 

• Work closely with lab supervision, test engineers, technicians, and lab personnel to support testing operations. 

• Creates and revises Maintenance and Calibration SOPs, checklists and set-up guides.  Able to train peers and sign-off on their training assessments. 

• Provides input on equipment improvements and reliability initiatives. 

• Serves as a primary point of acceptance of testing retrofits and new test equipment where needed. 

• Assists Facilities Manager with performing Facility improvements/repairs where needed. 

Knowledge and Skills

• Good communication skills.  Able to work well in a group and follow supervision. 

• Strong Technical Competence. 

• Proficient knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic and PLC-controlled systems. 

Education and Experience

• High School Diploma and technical certification or proven apprenticeship required. 

• A minimum of 6+ years as an industrial mechanic or millwright in a manufacturing or testing environment. 

• Familiarity with tire testing equipment or automotive testing machinery is preferred. 

Physical Requirements

• Ability to repeat motions that include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.  

• Must be able to repetitively operate handheld tools that vibrate the hands, wrists and arms. 

• Employees must possess the ability to regularly lift, carry, push, pull and move materials and objects weighing up to 50 pounds.  

• Must be able to remain standing or moving on feet for prolong periods of time. 

• Ability to work in confined spaces where needed to access parts of test equipment. 

• Ability to work in high temperature environments for short periods of time when needed.
