Our mission is to innovate and build scalable and robust hardware and software solutions in the manufacturing environment. These solutions drive delivery of Blue Origin rockets and systems. Participate in the design, implementation, and deployment of pioneering systems and technologies to continuously improve the safety, quality and efficiency of our manufacturing processes. Functionally decompose sophisticated problems into simple, straight-forward solutions. Share knowledge in performance, scalability, enterprise system architecture, and engineering standard methodologies.

We are looking for someone to apply their mechanical & controls engineering expertise, leadership skills, and dedication to quality to scale and improve the automated manufacturing at Blue. Passion for our mission and vision is required.

Responsibilities:

  • Support initiatives to improve the reliability and efficiency of manufacturing processes through automation; accomplish the technical architecture, roadmap, and implementation

  • Mechanical design, hardware development, and visualization using 3D CAD to support equipment modifications

  • Drive the hardware design, and process flow of new automated equipment and tooling

  • Provide production support for sophisticated manufacturing equipment, perform root cause analysis for continuous process improvements

  • Project management

  • Vendor/supplier management

  • Advanced understanding of and demonstrated ability to implement GD&T on 2D drawings through design, peer review, and engineering release.

  • Integrate mechanical, electronic, and software components into unified systems.

  •  Improve existing systems for optimal performance and reliability.

  • Conduct feasibility studies, prototyping and/or process simulations.

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure system requirements are met.

  • 3D modeling of custom automation equipment to include but not limited to robotic end of arm tools, assorted peripheral / auxiliary material handling equipment, etc. 

Required Qualifications:

  • 3+ years experience with 'from scratch' design, procurement, assembly, commissioning, and maintenance of automated tooling or equipment

  • A demonstrated ability to interpret and review mechanical drawings

  • Strong skills for design and process simplification

  • Ability to communicate optimally, clearly, and with humility to partners

  • An understanding of world-class quality, attention to detail, and dedication

  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion 

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

  • 6+ years of experience in mechatronics, mechanical, or related field with focus on mechanical design and strong hardware integration skills (ex. SolidWorks, Creo, or similar packages)

  • Strong understanding of control systems, robotics, and automation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.

  • Knowledge of programming languages such as Python, C/C++, or MATLAB.

  • Experience with controls and automation software.

  • A demonstrated ability
