This role is part of the Lunar Transportation business unit. To further Blue Origin's mission of having millions of people living and working in space, we are building the sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the Lunar Surface. 

As part of a hardworking team of diverse specialists, technicians, and engineers the candidate applies standard engineering techniques to design, install, modify, analyze, repair and test tools, engines, machines, and other mechanically functioning equipment. Development, release, and support of engineering artifacts across the development cycle to support hardware fabrication, assembly, verification, test and operations. Implements operating procedures, resolves system malfunctions, and provide technical information. Researches and analyzes customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs or applications. Specifies system components or directs modification of products to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications. Investigates equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation, and to make recommendations to maintenance crew.

Specifically, you will share in the team’s impact on all aspects of designing, building, testing and flying Environmental Control and Life Support (ECLS) flight hardware.   The ECLS System is composed of the essential hardware to allow humans to safely inhabit space.   ECLSS circulates air around the vehicle picking up carbon dioxide, humidity and trace contaminants to be scrubbed and provides oxygen for breathing.   The internal cabin pressure is maintained and monitored.   Clean drinking water is provided to the crew.  The ECLS system also monitors air quality as well as emergencies such as rapid depressurization and fire and counteracts them.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Own and lead the Ventilation and Atmosphere Revitalization fan assemblies and interfaces through the entire life cycle:  Conception, Design, Build, Test, Install and Operations
  • Derive functional and performance requirements, and specify hardware
  • Perform system calculations and basic analyses
  • Design and integrate the fan assemblies and acoustics into ECLS syste
