Summary:

Assumes overall responsibility for the operations of the University of Richmond Student Health Center by providing student-focused leadership and development of a medical team skilled in caring for the young adult population. Provides health care, counseling, and health education to University of Richmond students; manages UR response to emergency situations impacting public health. Works closely with other Health & Well-being departments as an integrated team to provide a seamless wellness experience for students.

Job Duties Responsibilities:

Administrative

• Responsible for all aspects of operations of the SHC to maintain the daily efficient operation of services. 
• Directs the development and implementation of short and long-range strategic plans for the Health Center, which are consistent with its mission and vision, and the mission and strategic priorities of the Health and Well-being Unit and the University of Richmond.
• Oversees the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and medical services that comply and are consistent with accepted medical standards, applicable regulatory and licensing requirements, federal and state regulations, AAAHC accreditation standards, and the policies of UR.
• Develops and supports processes that encourage integrated care efforts and reduce barriers to care across health and well-being programs at the University.
• Serves on the leadership team for the Health and Well-being Unit, and represents SHC on University committees and projects.
• Responsible for the supervision, recruitment, and evaluation of operations and clinical student health staff; determines an organizational structure to support quality care and optimal functioning.
• Develops and maintains intentional collaborative relationships with colleagues in the community and professional associations pertaining to collegiate health service provision.
• Maintains confidentiality through FERPA/HIPAA and actively supports patient rights and serves as a patient advocate.
• Ensures that SHC staff have appropriate credentials and certifications for the duties they perform, continuing education requirements are met to maintain such certification/licensure, and that in-service learning opportunities are provided to the staff on a regular basis. 

Clinical Responsibilities

• Provides direct primary care for students, appropriate to the needs of a diverse and multicultural college student population, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment, referral for consultation or specialty services, mental health and preventive health screenings, and follow-up care, while ensuring completion of patient records.
• Serves as lead physician and primary point of contact for parents, faculty, staff, hospitals, and outside providers, including ongoing assessment and updates to Student Health Center protocols.
• Provides consultation and supervision to physicians, nurse practitioners registered nurses and medical assistants on challenging, complex or high risk patient issues.
• Leads medical-related response to individuals and/or groups during campus-wide crises and natural disasters.
• Ensures that his/her own clinical skills and medical knowledge are maintained at an appropriate level that meets accepted medical standards.
• Advocates for awareness and understanding of the importance of diversity and inclusion as it relates to all people in Health & Well-being facilities, programs, and communications. Performs all duties under a commitment to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds. Advocates for the educational and cultural benefits of providing diversity and inclusion in Health & Well-being
