Manager - Finance Risk Management (FRM) team

Capital One is seeking a motivated professional for a Manager position within the Finance Risk Management (FRM) team. FRM associates are engaged and insightful risk management partners working across the Finance organization to execute robust and proactive risk management programs, improve effectiveness and efficiency of operation while reducing risk and influencing risk stakeholders, risk offices, compliance, internal audit, and regulators. FRM strives to enable a strong culture of risk management across Finance that is adaptable to a changing environment.

This role will lead the risk advisory for Balance Sheet Management and Predictive Analytics organizations in Finance, which include liquidity risk management,  interest rate risk management, trade valuation and analytics, funds transfer pricing, and advanced analytics. 

A successful candidate for this role will have strong critical thinking and analytical skills, be a proactive problem solver with the ability to operate in white space, and have strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to clearly articulate complex topics both orally and written to a wide variety of audiences. The candidate should be a well-organized, self-starter who is comfortable functioning autonomously, taking end-to-end ownership of work streams, ensuring all deliverables are completed timely, and leveraging their subject matter knowledge to synthesize all available information to influence our partners to make grounded, risk-based decisions.

General Responsibilities:

  • Effectively provide risk advisory to our 1st line of defense business partners, and collaborates effectively with 2nd line of defense (Compliance, Legal, Enterprise Risk Management, Operational Risk Management) and 3rd line of defense (Audit and Credit Review)

  • Supports audits, credit reviews, and regulatory exams of our business partners’ organizations, as applicable

  • Oversee financial risk assessments in liquidity, market and counterparty credit risks 

  • Analyze information to proactively identify risks, trends, and process improvements; supports reporting on risk topics to management

  • Stays current on the changing regulatory environment and understand the impacts to your businesses

  • Provides oversight and guidance during risk assessments (Processes level risk assessments, etc.)

  • Is a thought leader in providing guidance to businesses and supporting functions in implementing risk management and change management practices

  • Participates in risk forums and contributes to continuous improvement of risk management practices

  • Sets direction, manages expectations, and lead cross-functional teams through various initiatives

  • Participate in and execute other special projects for the team on a periodic basis

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or military experience

  • At least 5 years of Risk Management experience in Finance, Operations, Compliance, Audit, or a combination 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in a Financial Services Industry

  • 7+ years of Risk Management experience in Finance, Operations, Compliance, Audit, or a combination

  • 2+ years experience in capital markets

  • Experience in leading large cross-functional project teams to deliver results

  • Master in Finance or Business Administration, or related field

  • Experience in resolution plan, recovery plan, capital and/or liquidity frameworks
