We anticipate the need for one or more Apprentice Maintenance Technician- Electrical(s) at our Hydro Maintenance Building in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. The minimum starting (Step 1 – 60%) rate of pay for this position is $38.41 hourly. (The base Journeyman's pay rate is $64.02 hourly.) The position will be posted for 15 Working Days from April 9th, 2025, to April 30th, 2025. Candidate skills and qualifications will be evaluated and, in conformity to union contract, appropriate step placement will be offered to a successful candidate.
Pay may also be adjusted in conformity with union contract, but in no case will it be less than the negotiated step minimum. Minimum apprentice pay levels as a percentage of base Journeyman Mechanic Technician pay:
1st Step: 60%
2nd Step: 65%
3rd Step: 70%
4th Step: 75%
5th Step: 80%
6th Step: 85%
7th Step: 90%
8th Step: 95%
Summary:
This position performs maintenance of electrical and control equipment in 21 hydro plants in the NSP region. Including minor design, installation, maintenance, calibration (including test equipment), testing, troubleshooting, configuration and repair of Hydro Plant instrumentation and process control systems. Install and maintain electrical equipment up to 600 volts (examples-lighting equipment, power circuits, MCC equipment and electric motors). Mark up of drawings as necessary. Specify and initiate purchase requisitions in support of the above. Maintain accurate records.
Minimum Requirements:
1) High School Diploma or GED.
2) Must have basic computer literacy and proficiency with Microsoft Office products
3) Must have the ability to intelligently communicate constructively with plant personnel both verbally and in writing.
4) Must be able to work with minimal supervision, have strong leadership and teamwork skills.
5) Must be customer focused, have good organizational and problem-solving skills.
6) Valid driver's license and obtain a valid Federal Medical Examiner Certificate (Fed Med card) issued pursuant to FMCSR part 391 within the first 6 months of hire.
Special Requirements:
1) Callouts, and overtime including weekends and holidays is required.
2) Willing to travel and work away from home. Duties may be performed at any of the NSP Hydro plants, as directed by plant management.
3) Must have the ability to read and understand logic, schematic and circuit diagrams
4) Will be required to perform duties, when necessary, from scaffolding and catwalks in high and confined areas.
5) Ability to research and conduct electrical parts planning and plan lay outs for projects
6) Relocation to immediate area of Chippewa Falls, WI will be employee's responsibility. Must reside within 20-mile radius of Wissota Hydro Maintenance Building within the first 6 months of hire
7) A high awareness of safety and compliance with company safety rules is required at all times.
8) Selection criteria may include testing and/or assessment.
Preferred:
1) A well-qualified candidate will have training in one of the following fields: Electrician, Relay Technician, I&C Technician, Electrical/Technical on the job experience.
2) Education such as a two-year trade school or the equivalent such as military training OR an AA degree in electronics or instrumentation.
3) Experience working with mechanical equipment, machinery and power plant equipment.
4) Strong experience with variable frequency drive, turbine, generator and 3 phase motors.
5) Two or more years troubleshooting and repairs to the component level of electronic/industrial instrumentation and/or power plant experience.
6) Knowledge of PLC control logic.
7) Knowledge of communication links and computer networks is helpful.
