Job Summary: 

The operations supervisor is responsible for supervising operational staffs, developing procedures and routines to execute day-to-day functions and meet operational goals. This position is also responsible for managing the operational set up needs for hockey games and non-hockey events.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage day and event operation to assist management counterparts in successfully executing all hockey and non-hockey events.
  • Analyze all event memos/information to identify, schedule and execute proper set ups through District Detroit.
  • Create schedule and execute overnight conversions needs.
  • Provide preventative maintenance to all conversion related equipment, tools and supplies.
  • Provide inventory control of conversion tools and equipment and advise when replenishment is needed.
  • Develop and implement a quality control procedure for all venue conversions to ensure safety, quality and accuracy for all elements.
  • Manage and report event expenses related to internal labor, third party labor / event staffing and equipment rental needs.
  • Calculate event operation expenses – prepare operation/rental equipment costs for potential and/or upcoming events.
  • Develops schedules and provide direction to all conversion and housekeeping functions. Oversee interdepartmental, intercompany and external billing functions for materials and services provided by the Operations Department.
  • Analyze hourly labor accounts and assist in scheduling and organizing hourly labor in the most efficient manner.
  • Analyze operational expense accounts and assist in developing cost savings strategies and monitoring budgetary performance.
  • Work with Operations Manager on post event reporting of costs and general event information.
  • Oversee issuance of keys and other security – related items from the Operations Department.
  • Ensure proper policies, procedures and budgetary controls are followed.
  • Partner on departmental hiring and training for hourly event and maintenance staff.
  • Manage tracking of off-site storage.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Minimum two to four years related experience in a supervisory capacity
    **Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work
  • Possess the highest integrity and ethical standards
  • Outstanding ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with event colleagues
  • Strong communication and customer service abilities
  • Detail oriented – ability to keep accurate and detailed records
  • Highly organized, self-directed business style, with strong ability to prioritize
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at once
  • Must have a good knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to problem solve

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience working in the sports and entertainment industry

Working Conditions:

  • Irregular and extended hours including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Exposure to moderate - high noise level
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Frequent visual/auditory attention
