Who we are looking for:

The Emerging Technologies and Computing (ETC) Group in the Research Computing Support Division (RCSD) in the Information Technology Services Directorate (ITSD) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is hiring a Senior IT Project Manager!

 

What you will be doing:

The Emerging Technologies & Computing Group focuses on support researcher’s HPC computing, Data engineering and management, and new technology needs. Our goal is to enable research while protecting ORNL assets, especially from cyber incidents.

We also offer a flexible work schedule and use email, Jira, Confluence, Teams, Slack, and other collaboration solutions to stay in contact. The role requires regular on-site support but will allow work from home at least 25% of the time.

 

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Perform project management support for existing ORNL programs and projects.
  • Work with team members to develop plans and strategies to meet program and project needs.
  • Plan the delivery of project milestones and activities in accordance with the mission and the goals of the organization.
  • Work with team members to develop and implement long-term goals and objectives to achieve the successful outcome of each project.
  • Support the development of an annual budget and operating plan to support each project.
  • Ensure that project activities operate within the policies and procedures of the Company.
  • Ensure that project activities comply with all relevant legislation and professional standards.
  • Develop forms and records to document project activities.
  • Liaise and coordinate with team members to ensure the effective and efficient project delivery.
  • Prepare reports on the projects.
  • Identify and evaluate the risks associated with project activities and take appropriate action to control the risks.
  • Monitor project activities on a regular basis and conduct an annual evaluation according to the project evaluation framework.
  • Report evaluation findings to the Client’s technical project officer, and recommend changes to enhance the project, as appropriate.
  • Work independently on tasks in the form of functional requirements with some technical specifications that are defined by the technical project officer.
  • Coordinate tasks with project team members, manage and execute the work associated with these tasks, provide technical documentation and other deliverables required by government-funded projects associated with the tasks that are undertaken.
  • Candidate must be fluent in program and project management techniques, be a proficient technical writer, have strong interpersonal skills, and be capable of working independently on complex tasks in support of team members.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, management, computer science, information systems/technology, or a related field of study.
  • 5-7 years of experience in project management.
  • Extensive experience with MS Project.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills suitable for user support and the ability to work well with peer system administrators.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PMP certification.
  • 10+ years of experinece in project management.
  • Effective documentation skills, including ability to prepare simple documentation web pages.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Solid understanding of multiple operating systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic environment.
