JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life is seeking an Associate Director for Health, Safety, & Event Planning to serve as a member of the leadership team and provide oversight and leadership for health and safety initiatives including risk prevention efforts, event planning and monitoring, and policy compliance.

This position will assist the Director in ongoing strategic planning and the execution of the Fraternity & Sorority Life mission and purpose for a community of diverse students, chapters, and governing councils. The purpose of Fraternity & Sorority Life at Penn State is to support the mission and goals of the university, strengthen the scholarship and build the character and integrity of our members, promote brotherhood, sisterhood, and siblinghood, develop leadership, engage State College through community service and philanthropic efforts, and affirm personal and organizational responsibility. This position provides support to chapter advisors and local house corporation personnel, will represent Student Affairs and OFSL on various committees, and establish and grow relationships with internal partners such as Student Accountability & Conflict Response, Sexual Misconduct Reporting & Response, Health Promotion & Wellness, and the Gender Equity Center, as well as many external stakeholders. 

This position reports to the Director of Fraternity & Sorority Life and will supervise a team of one Senior Assistant Director and three Assistant Directors with collective responsibility for health, safety, and event planning initiatives within a fraternity and sorority community of approximately 70 chapters and 4 distinct councils. 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Guide educational programming around health and safety, including event planning, risk management, and hazing prevention. 

  • Develop and revise policies and procedures that contribute to the health and safety of the fraternity and sorority community.  

  • Assist staff in navigating crises such as alcohol and other drug use, hazing, and sexual misconduct incidents that require mandatory reporting.
