What You'll Be Doing

Wake County Public Health is seeking an experienced and collaborative Nurse Supervisor to lead the Child Health Clinic. This position provides clinical, operational, and administrative leadership to ensure the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based pediatric services for infants, children, adolescents, and their families. The Nurse Supervisor oversees clinic operations, nursing practice, quality improvement, staff development, regulatory compliance, workforce planning, and interdisciplinary collaboration while promoting exceptional patient care, health equity, and positive population health outcomes.

Clinical Leadership

  • Provide leadership and oversight for the delivery of comprehensive pediatric nursing services for patients from birth through age 21.
  • Coordinate clinic operations with providers, program managers, and support staff to ensure efficient workflow and patient access.
  • Oversee nursing care related to well-child visits, growth and developmental assessments, vision and hearing screenings, childhood immunizations and NCIR documentation, developmental, behavioral, and autism screenings, limited acute visits, care coordination, case management, and family education.
  • Ensure compliance with evidence-based clinical practice, CDC recommendations, North Carolina Board of Nursing regulations, and agency policies.

Operations and Staff Management

  • Direct daily clinic operations, staffing, scheduling, workflow, and customer service.
  • Supervise, mentor, coach, and evaluate nursing staff.
  • Coordinate orientation, competency validation, continuing education, and professional development.
  • Support workforce planning, succession planning, and staff retention initiatives.
  • Promote teamwork, accountability, employee engagement, and staff retention.

Quality Improvement

  • Lead quality improvement initiatives that enhance patient outcomes, safety, and operational performance.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of clinical protocols, standing orders, and workflows.
  • Monitor quality indicators, documentation, immunization compliance, developmental screening, and follow-up activities.
  • Use performance metrics and data to identify opportunities for clinical and operational improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements.

Collaboration and Community Engagement

  • Collaborate with providers, schools, community agencies, and multidisciplinary teams to improve access to pediatric services.
  • Participate in community outreach activities promoting child health and disease prevention.
  • Represent the Child Health Clinic on agency committees and workgroups.

Emergency Preparedness

  • Participate in emergency preparedness planning and response activities.
  • Ensure clinic readiness and maintain required certifications.

The Basics (Required Education and Experience)

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing
  • Two years of experience as a nurse
  • North Carolina Board of Nursing Licensed Registered Nurse
  • CPR
  • AED
  • Equivalent education and experience are accepted
  • Please include ALL prior work experience on your application and resume.

Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)

  • 3 years or more Nurse Supervisory experience
  • 2 years or more pediatric office nurse experience
  • Immunization schedule knowledge with recent (within the last year) pediatric vaccine administration experience
  • Working knowledge of NCIR
  • Spanish Language skills
