The Roofer will perform maintenance and repair of a variety of roofs on school district buildings and facilities. This incumbent should perform tasks at a skilled journeyman level.

Job OverviewThe Roofer will perform maintenance and repair of a variety of roofs on school district buildings and facilities. This incumbent should perform tasks at a skilled journeyman level.
Position Description
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Operational
- Maintain and repair of a variety of roofs on buildings and facilities, including single-ply shingles, slag, built-up, modified, and metal roofs
- Remove and replace damaged shingles; repair leaks in slag, built-up, modified, and metal roofs; install expansion joints, gravel stops, flashing, and coping; apply a variety of glues, cements, adhesives, and caulking materials
- Perform related sheet metal work such as cutting and shaping flashing and valley tin; remove, repair and hang metal gutters and downspouts
- Conduct water leak tests on roofs, roof drains, masonry walls and foundations, doors, windows and skylights to detect leak sources
- Operate and maintain power saws, drills, metal cutters, speed bars and hammers, glue guns, torches and other standard tools of the roofing trade
- Ensure that all safety precautions, regulations, and equipment are utilized properly, and that work complies with building codes
- Conduct periodic inspections of building roofs; recommend repairs and replacement; perform preventative maintenance tasks
- Participate in the set up and clean up of work sites to ensure a safe environment
- Inspect new roof construction and identify any deficiencies found
- Perform job layout tasks; order and procure materials
- Keep records and prepare reports of work accomplished and materials used
- Continue communication with contractors and oversee corrective repairs as well as keep roof warranty records
- May supervise one or more employees and provide guidance and training

- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid Texas Drivers License
- Minimum of 4 years
- Ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships
- Ability to read, write and speak English
- Good knowledge of national, state, and local building codes relating to the roofing trade
- Demonstrated knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the trade
- Ability to plan and layout work projects, and to estimate time and materials needed
- Ability to perform routine record keeping tasks and arithmetical computations
