The Opportunity
Ulteig is seeking an Associate Director to help lead and shape the future of our Renewables, Civil Department during a period of strong growth in the renewable energy market. This is a meaningful leadership opportunity for an experienced AEC leader who wants to develop managers, guide multidisciplinary technical teams, strengthen project delivery, build client relationships, and help advance critical renewable infrastructure across North America.
In this role, you will lead technical managers and teams of civil and structural engineers, designers, and technicians supporting utility-scale solar, wind, and battery energy storage projects. You will partner across project delivery, business development, and operations to build team capability, support client success, and position Ulteig for continued growth. Ulteig is employee-owned, flexible in how we work, and focused on solving infrastructure challenges that matter.
What You'll Do
In this role, you will balance project leadership, people leadership, and business development influence. Most of your time will be focused on leading managers and teams, strengthening department capability, supporting strong project execution, and partnering with others to grow Ulteig’s Renewables business.
Project Responsibilities - 10%
- Lead engineering and design activities during proposal, design, quality control, and construction phases for assigned renewable civil and/or structural projects.
- Provide direction and oversight for subconsultants to support project delivery, quality, schedule, and client expectations.
- Oversee renewable civil and/or structural project scope, including contract requirements, change orders, schedule commitments, and technical delivery expectations.
- Direct and coordinate multidisciplinary project activities on significant projects or a combination of large projects.
- Maintain high standards of quality in alignment with internal expectations and client requirements.
Management Responsibilities - 50%
- Build and sustain a positive, accountable team culture where managers and team members can do strong work, grow, and collaborate across disciplines and offices.
- Provide strategic direction, leadership, and technical services oversight to help employees achieve individual, team, department, and organizational performance goals.
- Lead leaders by coaching, mentoring, and developing management staff through regular leadership conversations, career development, talent reviews, succession planning, quarterly reviews, promotion planning, retention efforts, and engagement survey follow-up.
- Oversee team budgets with clear financial stewardship, including revenue, profitability, indirect expenses, training, recognition, and team event costs.
- Evaluate capacity, skill sets, performance, and development needs to guide workforce planning, support cross-team collaboration, and help team members grow through clear feedback, training, and professional development.
- Support department growth by partnering with HR and hiring teams to evaluate candidates, participate in interviews, lead debrief discussions, and help select strong talent for current and future team needs.
- Lead departmental continuous improvement and strategic initiatives that improve efficiency, strengthen delivery, support innovation, and position the team for long-term success.
Business Development Responsibilities - 40%
- Partner with Business Development and leaders across the organization to support territory sales plan execution, expand services with existing and prospective clients, promote revenue growth, and maintain disciplined cost awareness.
- Help shape proposal strategy and contracting efforts by coordinating resources, reviewing proposals, and partnering with the Proposal Development Team and Project Management group on contracts, work orders, MSAs, and NDAs.
- Build and sustain trusted client relationships that support strong delivery, repeat work, and long-term growth in the Renewables market.
- Represent the Renewables Civil Department in client and market conversations where technical leadership, delivery confidence, and team capability are important to winning and growing work.
What We Expect From You
Required qualifications
- PE registration is required.
- Prior management experience is required, with demonstrated ability to lead managers, develop people, and build accountable teams.
- Prior renewable civil or structural design experience is required.
