Description

The University of Washington Department of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery is actively recruiting a full-time academic sleep surgeon at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor without tenure by reason of funding (WOT). Academic title/rank will be commensurate with experience/qualifications.

Assistant Professors WOT are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.  

Associate Professors hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.  

University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service.

This position is based in the UW Medicine Sleep Center, which is located at Harborview Medical Center.  The Sleep Center is moving in December 2024 to newly designed and remodeled space, which includes a 10-bed Sleep Laboratory, a full home sleep testing program, 11 clinic rooms (including 3 fully equipped sleep surgery clinic/procedure rooms), a CT scanner, staff offices, and a faculty office suiteThe Sleep Center houses seven on-site board sub-certified sleep medicine physicians and surgeons, three sleep medicine fellows, four on-site sleep medicine and surgery nurse practitioners, associated support staff, and other traineesThe Center is the hub for the larger affiliated sleep medicine and sleep surgery community, including board sub-certified sleep medicine physicians at the Seattle VA Medical Center (nine) and Seattle Children’s Hospital (seven).

This position works in the capacity of a Board Certified Otolaryngologist Surgeon within the Department. The candidate will contribute to a multi-disciplinary practice environment which includes teaching (fellow, resident, and medical student) and research (clinical or basic science).

The primary focus of this position will be to develop and lead a nerve stimulation therapy program within the UW Sleep Center, in collaboration with Sleep Medicine colleagues. The candidate will also provide broader clinical and operative sleep surgery care within the Sleep Center. It is the expectation that the faculty member participate in clinical and surgical activities and take fair share of call on nights, weekends, and holidays. The anticipated start date is July of 2025.

Assistant Professor WOT Rank:

The base salary range for this position at the Assistant Professor WOT rank will be: $22,500 - $24,167 per month ($270,000 - $290,004 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.

Other compensation associated with this position includes semi-annual additional compensation through the University of Washington Physicians Group. The UW department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery targets the AAMC 50th percentile for total salary.

Associate Professor WOT Rank:

The base salary range for this position at the Associate Professor WOT rank will be: $29,167 - $32,500 per month ($350,004 - $390,000 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations.
