The Department of Hematology & Medical Oncology is comprised of physicians, nurses, researchers, advanced practice providers (APP) and other healthcare professionals specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with cancers or disorders of the blood. We believe in compassionate patient care, and we will always put patients and their family members first. By joining the Medical Oncology team as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you will assist the five physicians along with other caregivers in providing top-quality patient care to patients in the Cancer Center. You will play a key role in rooming patients, reconciling their health information, answering in-basket messages, answering patient questions, providing reassurance, and communicating provider recommendations to the patients. A caregiver in this position works Monday-Friday from 8:00AM – 5:00PM.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Provide professional nursing care to patients.
Administer medication.
Maintain complete and accurate documentation in medical records and files.
Complete authorization forms and laboratory requisitions.
Implement pain management assessments and documentation.
Recognize changes in patients' status and report pertinent information to Charge Nurse or Physicians.
Educate patients, families and others.
Adhere to the National Patient Safety Goals as outlined by JCAHO.
Follow Code Blue protocol.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Graduate of an accredited LPN program
Florida Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
Knowledge of infection control practices
Experience with technology
