JOB SUMMARY
The Certified Medical Assistant functions as an important member of the healthcare teams by providing basic clinical, clerical, and technical support to assist providers in planning for patients’ care, comfort, and safety. The individual performs in a manner consistent with Marshfield Clinic Health System’s (MCHS) mission, policies, and initiatives while maintaining patient confidentiality at all times.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
For positions requiring education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, educational qualifications must be from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education and Accreditation.
Minimum Required: Graduate of a Medical Assistant program OR Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) diploma OR applicable coursework to obtain license below.

EXPERIENCE
Minimum Required: None
Preferred/Optional: Experience in healthcare.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES
The following licensure(s), certification(s), registration(s), etc., are required for this position. Licenses with restrictions are subject to review to determine if restrictions are substantially related to the position.
Minimum Required: : Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA) within three months of hire and one of the following:
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification awarded by the American Association or Medical Assistants (AAMA)
- Registered Medical Assistant registration from the American Medical Technologist (AMT)
- Registered Medical Assistant registry from the American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA)
- Licensed Practical Nurse license in the state of Wisconsin or equivalent
National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
Preferred/Optional: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA) at time of hire.

JOB SUMMARY
The Medical Assistant functions as an important member of the healthcare team by providing basic clinical, clerical, and technical support under the delegation and supervision of a licensed provider. The Medical Assistant assists providers in planning for patients’ care, comfort, and safety, and performs in a manner consistent with Marshfield Clinic’s mission, policies, and initiatives while maintaining patient confidentiality at all times.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Minimum Required: One of the following:
- Graduate of a Medical Assistant program
OR - Documented successful completion of the following courses (or their recognized course equivalent):
- Medical Terminology (from an accredited institution or completed online through Universal Class)
- Anatomy & Physiology or Body Structure & Function or Human Body in Health & Disease (from an accredited institution or online through Universal Class)
- Pharmacology (from an accredited institution)
Candidates may also qualify through at least two years of direct healthcare-related work experience in roles such as, but not limited to:
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
- Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
- Health Unit Coordinator (HUC)
- Emergency Department (ED) Technician
- Patient Care Assistant (PCA)
- Dental Assistant
- Home Health Aide
- Phlebotomist
- Certified Medication Aide / Med Tech
- Behavioral Health Technician / Mental Health Aide
- Physical Therapy Aide / Rehabilitation Aide
- Chiropractic Assistant
- Hospice Aide
- Optometric / Ophthalmic Assistant
- Medical Assistant (including roles involving vital signs and basic patient care)
Healthcare experience should include, but is not limited to:
- Direct patient care activities (vital signs, assisting with ADLs)
- Basic clinical procedures relevant to the role
- Providing support under supervision in clinical settings
