TITLE

Director, Academic Success Initiatives – Denton 

 

JOB SUMMARY 

 

The Director of Academic Success Initiatives develops, coordinates, and implements academic and academically related programming for current TWU students in alignment with institutional goals. Utilizing current research, assessment data, and best practices, the director works toward improving student learning within the classroom through innovative services such as intensive graduate writing programs, community of practice workshops, individual advising, consultations and intervention, academic coaching, and academic enhancement services. The director serves as the primary point of contact for daily operations for the Pioneer Center for Student Excellence physical on the Denton campus. Additionally, the director assists with user needs when working within the Pioneer Center and during events. Work is performed under general supervision and performance is based upon completion of assignments and results obtained. The performance evaluation is conducted through the performance evaluation system and in accordance with the University Policies & Procedures.

 

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

 

Reports to:      Executive Director, Pioneer Center for Student Excellence 

 

Supervises:     May supervise Professional Staff, Graduate Students and Student Workers

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES - May include, but not limited to the following:

 

  1. Develops, coordinates, and implements academic success initiatives impacting student retention, persistence and graduation for undergraduate and graduate students including, but not limited to, Thesis & Dissertation Boot Camp, Three-minute Thesis, Academic Coaching, Learning Success Workshops, and Collaborative Study in alignment with institutional need.
  2. Develops and implements programming built upon high-impact practices and student needs.
  3. Collaborates with internal and external groups to develop and promote student success programs. 
  4. Works directly with faculty and academic departments to address academic support needs for students studying on the Denton Campus.
  5. Oversees operations of the Pioneer Center for Student Excellence on the Denton campuses including staffing, service delivery, and hours of operations. 
  6. Serves as point-of-contact resource for faculty and students with regard to Center functions by providing guidance on best-practice academic support programs and initiatives.
  7. Maintains student usage spaces including scheduling, inventory, and tracking of usage.
  8. Co-leads the implementation of proactive intervention services, in conjunction with the Executive Director, PCSE.
  9. Hires, trains, and supervises academic coaches. 
  10. Develops and coordinates marketing for Pioneer Center programming and services in collaboration with Marketing & Communications.
  11. Develops program outcomes for academic enhancement areas.
  12. Develops and produces statistical and analytical reports on programs.
  13. Develops evaluation and assessment tools.
  14. Uses data to make informed programmatic decisions.
  15. Advises students on academic concerns.
  16. Recommends new programs when appropriate. 
  17. Represents the Pioneer Center for Student Excellence on internal and external committees, task forces, and councils.

 

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

 

  • Performs other duties as requested.

 

EDUCATION 

 

Master’s degree required.

 

EXPERIENCE

 

Five years’ experience in program development, and experience working with special populations of students or related experience. Knowledge of student development theory, development advising theory.

 

REQUIREMENT

 

Regular and reliable attendance at the University during regular scheduled days and work hours is an essential function of this position.
