Job Description

General Summary:    

The Vice President of Operations and Associate Chief Nursing Officer is responsible for all clinical and non-clinical activities and employees at the Lurie Downers Grove campus.  The Vice President of Operations and Associate Chief Nursing Officer will lead execution management, financial performance and oversight of all operational components of the Downers Grove campus in accordance with a strategy aligned with that of Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Has 24/7 accountability for all day-to-day hospital operations for the Lurie Children’s Downers Grove campus.  Oversees all nursing operations and provides direction for the planning, coordination and evaluation of systems and processes that support safe and effective patient care, in collaboration with the Associate Chief Medical Officer, Downers Grove.

  • Serves as a liaison to non-clinical operations, such as finance, human resources, information management, etc., ensuring excellence, quality and safety management, workforce engagement, patient and family experience, financial performance, efficiency and commitment to the overall mission of Lurie Children’s Hospital.

  • Serves as the key leader in the campus activation readiness, including staff planning, in coordination with the Chief Operating Officer, Chief Clinical Officer / Chief Nursing Officer, Chief Medical Officer, Chief Strategy Officer, Chief Financial Officer, Design & Construction team.

  • Accountable for hospital financial performance, including operating budget, expense management, and productivity targets.

  • Partner with system finance leaders to develop and manage budgets, forecasts, and variance mitigation plans.

  • Engages with family advisory council and other local stakeholders to serve community needs and advance Lurie Children’s strategic priorities.

  • Directly accountable for site regulatory compliance, accreditation, licensure requirements and all site-based operations.

  • Works with Lurie Children’s Medical Group leadership on physician engagement and business development with local pediatricians.

  • Serves as key ambassador for the Hospital within the local community. Support community benefit initiatives and outreach efforts aligned with organizational priorities.

  • Works with Lurie Children’s leadership team on community engagement, establishing and maintaining relationships with government officials.

  • Activation lead on all building projects including clinical activation readiness in alignment with regulatory standards.

  • Ensure timely identification and mitigation of operational and clinical risks.

  • The authority to hire, separate, promote, demote, write and administer performance evaluations.

  • Other job functions as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree required in Nursing or related healthcare field; doctorate preferred.

  • Current RN license in the State of Illinois.

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible healthcare experience with at least 5 years at a senior leadership level.

  • Demonstrated competence in building and maintaining stakeholder trust including physicians, donors and community.

  • Ability to act independently and proactively and to effectively manage multiple priorities.

  • Strong oral and written communicator with a demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with trustees, legislators, other healthcare organizations and community leaders.,

Pay Range

$300,000-$365,000 Salary
