Job Description:

The vendor management Supervisor, Equipment Engineering R&D is an essential part of the equipment engineer leadership team.  The equipment engineering team provides expertise, service, and support to San Diego Illumina headquarters by maintaining equipment at world class levels in a fast-paced regulated environment and providing high level reliability exceeding Illumina’s dynamic Research and Development demands.  The vendor management supervisor will lead the equipment engineering team to achieve day to day equipment planned and unplanned maintenance and project operations by scheduling onsite 3rd party support and OEM vendors. The supervisor will oversee service contracts timely renewals and will be considered a subject matter expert in the area, and he will independently lead investigations and resolutions of technical and logistical challenges.  They will work in a dynamic team-oriented environment that supports and sustains multiple operations and technologies helping Illumina deliver its highly complex product pipeline in a reliable and sustainable manner.

Responsibilities: 

  • Maintain timely and active service contracts on supported equipment/spaces in the R&D Global lab management group. 
  • Supervise and direct all preventive maintenance/Calibrations and break/fix scheduling with vendors and lab owners.
  • Provide metrics on repairs, preventive maintenance, and break/fix work orders.
  • Coach and facilitate functional team members in carrying out their responsibilities in a timely manner.
  • Interface and coordinate with Engineering, Supply Chain, R&D, EHS, Quality, Regulatory, among other departments to ensure maintenance and project activities are on time and meet performance goals.
  • Interface with Senior Management regularly on metrics status.
  • Leads the monitoring of team performance and oversees the monitoring of equipment technical performance and technical inventory for area of responsibility.
  • Maintain staff by recruiting, selecting, training employees, and maintaining work instructions; maintain a safe, secure, and legal work environment.
  • Make suggestions for continuous improvement, changes to team processes, and cost savings.
  • Mentors, coaches, and facilitates reports to set the team up for success and provide for career growth both technically and managerially.
  • Other duties may be assigned as determined by Management.
  • Provide guidance on maintenance/troubleshooting/verification strategies including but not limited to techniques/methods/tools used, setting specifications, failure testing, data analysis.
  • Schedule and coordinate resources to ensure activities are completed in a timely manner.
  • While performing the duties of this job, is regularly required to stand, sit, walk, climb stairs/ladders, kneel, crouch, or wear safety gear. Must regularly lift and / or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Requirements:

  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changes in priority.
  • Advanced analytical skills and hands-on skills.
  • Detail-oriented, highly organized and ability to multi-task are essential.
  • Experience working in an ISO13485, or FDA certified environment is desirable.
  • Familiarity with SAP system.
  • Highly knowledgeable with service contracts, OEM and 3rd party vendor management.
  • Knowledge of GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) is a plus.
  • Must be a strong communicator, verbal and written, able to effectively lead teams and interface well with the organization.
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
