The Houston-Galveston Area Council is one of the largest regional planning commissions in the country with a diverse service area of 13 counties and more than 7 million people. We are the pulse of our region addressing issues that cross city limits and county lines every single day.

What will I be doing? 

ü Data Collection & Integrity: Gather, clean, and validate data from a variety of sources to ensure its accuracy and integrity.

ü Data Analysis & Insights: Perform detailed statistical analysis to identify trends, patterns, and insights that inform business decisions.

ü Reporting & Visualization: Develop reports, dashboards, and visualizations using Power BI to present findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

ü Collaboration: Work with business units to understand data needs and provide analytical support to improve organizational processes.

ü SQL & Data Management: Write and maintain SQL queries, scripts, and data pipelines to automate reporting and data extraction tasks.

ü Performance Monitoring: Track key performance indicators and assist in the development of performance dashboards aligned with agency goals.

ü Data Governance & Documentation: Help define data standards, ensure governance compliance, and document data processes.

ü Task Automation: Automate repetitive tasks using tools like Microsoft Power Automate, PowerShell, Python, and other technologies.

ü Training & Support: Provide training and support for staff on analytical tools and automation workflows.

ü System Integration: Work on integrating automation and analytics workflows with existing systems like Microsoft 365, Asana, and other business applications.

ü Continuous Learning: Stay up-to-date on new data analysis methods, automation tools, and industry best practices to continuously improve processes and tools.

Key Qualifications 

ü Technical Expertise: Proficiency in SQL, Excel, and data visualization tools such as Power BI.

ü Data Analysis: Strong ability to analyze large datasets and extract actionable insights.

ü Programming Skills: Familiarity with statistical programming languages such as Python or R is a plus.

ü Business Insight: Ability to translate complex business problems into data solutions and communicate findings to a broad audience.
