Job Description Summary
The Zoo Animal Technology Program is a unique program that offers an Associate of Science degree and requires students to work as Zookeepers in an accredited Zoo, the SF Teaching Zoo, which is on the grounds of the NW campus. The working environment is dynamic and requires excellent customer service skills to interact with guests, students, and employees in a respectful and positive manner.The Work Study Student is an organized and creative individual who supports the Conservation Education Curator in developing and implementing family literacy educational materials and programs for the SF Teaching Zoo. The student also assists with outreach, community, and tutoring activities, working with all ages from toddlers to seniors.
Job Description
Responsibilities and Duties Include:
Completes virtual presentations on Zoo grounds and at community outreach events to schools, libraries, assisted living facilities and more.
Creates lesson plans and activities for the afterschool literacy program, Rotary Reading Safari, College for Kids and other educational programs.
Assists with planning events such as Party for the Planet, Zookeeper Day and World Tree Kangaroo Day.
Facilitates animal encounters with guests and parties.
Monitors birthday parties on Zoo grounds.
Assists Conservation Education Curator in creating and building graphics and interactive displays.
Constructs props for educational presentations.
Strictly honors the privacy and security of student records and other sensitive information according to appropriate state, federal and college regulations, policies, and procedures.
Complies with all published College Rules, procedures, guidelines, and laws/regulations governing public employees, including but not limited to those related to document retention and destruction, FERPA, and confidentiality.
Provides service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible, and professional engagement.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required: Must be a currently enrolled Santa Fe College student, in good academic standing, taking six (6) or more credit hours.
Additional Requirements: A criminal background check will be conducted. Basic computer skills and the ability to work on some weekend days.
Preferred: Prior experience with public speaking, power tools, and with Photoshop and/or Publisher.
