PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

* This job announcement is to collect candidate applications for Seasonal Open Space Trail Stewards. Applicants will be contacted only when a position need is identified, and qualifications match the position's needs. **

Hiring Salary is $18.00/hour.

This position is classified as a VHNE (Variable Hour Non-Benefit Employee), where the selected candidate will work less than 29 hours per week. It does not provide medical benefits, but it earns sick leave in accordance with the Healthy Families and Workplace Act.

The City of Aurora will conduct ongoing screenings of applications throughout the year; as soon as we determine that we have a qualified pool of applicants, this position may close quickly and without notice.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide outstanding stewardship of the public lands under care
  • Conduct natural area invasive species management
  • Maintain trail systems
  • Actively participate in open space restoration projects
  • Upkeep and provide maintenance for facilities and amenities
  • Manage vegetation on rights-of-way
  • Properly operate and maintain equipment
  • Update records concerning materials and equipment used
  • Provide information to the public regarding resources, uses, rules, fees, etc.
  • Assist in special event/project implementation
  • Perform snow/ice removal as needed
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

Education: 

  • High School Diploma/GED

Experience: 

  • 1 year of related experience

Knowledge:

  • Methods, materials, equipment, and operating procedures utilized in the assigned functions
  • Hazards and safety practices common to machinery and equipment utilized
  • Snow removal procedures

Skills:

  • Working effectively with employees and citizens
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and vehicles
  • Safe and effective use of equipment and supplies

Abilities:

  • Operation of equipment and tools of assigned function
  • Work independently and be self-motivated
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Handle stressful situations in a professional and positive manner

Licenses and Certifications Required:

  • Current Driver’s License with good driving record
  • Colorado Basic Pesticide Training Certificate or ability to obtain within 2 months

Preferred Licenses and Certifications:

  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification
