Production Area Manager - Rail Operations (Pocatello, ID)

Summary

Incumbents in this position provide leadership and direction in the effective operation and maintenance of equipment and processes in a safe, environmentally sound and efficient manner in accordance with applicable laws, rules and regulations.  Supervise, schedule, evaluate, train and motivate hourly personnel.  Maintain high level of confidentiality.  The incumbent is also expected to provide leadership in process, organizational, and personnel improvement efforts.  He/she will also perform at a high level in positively relating to others and positively representing to others the views of his/her leadership.  The incumbent will be a proactive maintenance and operations leader, identifying process and equipment vulnerabilities and creating plans to act upon findings.  Provide technical expertise as well as project management discipline for new construction, expansion, and general capital improvements in a variety of plant operating areas.  This position oversees the Heavy Equipment bid line in the Production Department with oversight over the following work groups: labor pool, hydroblasting/industrial vacuum crews, dry product loading, rail operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain good lines of communication among departments, crews, and other supervisors
• Ensure direct reports have the training and tools to complete jobs safely and efficiently
• Strengthen and improve safety in the workplace through compliance with rules, regulations safety, inspections and training
• Ensure environmental compliance through proper knowledge and enforcement of procedures and requirements
• Maintain good housekeeping standards and expectations
• Participate in support the CARE about Safety program
• Effectively encourage new and innovative ways of thinking
• Set the example, sustain open communication, coach hourly employees, provide training opportunities, set goals, conduct performance evaluations, remedy employee work issues, uphold respectful workplace policies, and enforce work rules.
• Supervise operating, maintenance and troubleshooting processes
• Communicate precise procedures to direct reports
• Attend in-house and outside technical and supervisory seminars and training session
• Troubleshoot, monitor and maintain equipment
• Complete reports and inspections as required

Typical Education

• Bachelor's Degree (B.A. or B.S.) from 4-year college/university preferred.
• Equivalent experience will be considered.

Relevant Experience

• 8+ years’ experience and or training in mining and/or manufacturing fields leading both salaried and hourly personnel.
• Expertise with equipment, rail operations, and fleet management preferred.
• Experience interfacing with and ability to maintain strong relationships with regulatory agencies (i.e., OSHA,  FRA, etc.)
• Experience working with Union’s desired.
• Demonstrated ability to work with and communicate effectively with personnel in multiple departments.
• Strong written and verbal communication
• Strong computer knowledge (i.e., Excel, Word, PowerPoint, JDE (preferred), timekeeping)
