Sr Director, Clinical Imaging Strategy 

 

The Clinical Imaging Director contributes to the development of imaging strategy components of clinical development plans and oversees implementation of imaging deliverables in specific  radiotherapeutic, immuno-oncology and precision oncology trials. The key focus is to ensure that oncology clinical programs are adapting appropriate imaging techniques for decision-making from  preclinical through registration phases of development by working with preclinical groups and development teams during the drug  development process.  This role will concentrate on employing state-of-the-art imaging  biomarkers and techniques in working with preclinical groups  and clinical teams to develop imaging approaches that will  contribute to the development of new drugs.  The incumbent will achieve the above by relying on resources throughout the internal organization and by leveraging external relationships. They will ensure regulatory acceptance of imaging biomarker programs. They will collaborate with Bayer’s internal independent imaging core laboratory (GCIS) in developing imaging strategies and will support as well as monitor GCIS’s operational implementation.

 

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSBILITIES

 

The primary responsibilities of this role, Senior Director, Clinical Imaging Strategy, are to:

  • Will be responsible for assigned development programs with regard to  advising on appropriate use of imaging biomarkers and techniques and on the appropriate implementation in clinical trials (imaging  acquisition and analysis techniques, imaging documents including charters, image acquisition manuals at sites, central collection, quality  control and archiving) in cooperation with the Radiology GCIS team or  an external imaging CRO;
  • Serve as a member of the International Project Team (IPT), when required;
  • Will provide relevant imaging expertise to IPT and clinical teams  when evaluating and developing imaging strategies;
  • Acts as thought partner to early research leaders, proactively  following early projects prior to D2, and taking an active role from  D2 onwards, assembling resources for subsequent imaging  activities on the project;
  • Will provide relevant Oncology expertise to IPT when evaluating and developing translational and imaging strategies;
  • Ensures coordination of all aspects of imaging delivery in  synchronization with the drug R&D process, informed by deep  understanding of clinical development in Oncology and state-of-the-art imaging including use of imaging as a biomarker strategy;
  • Will own, source and develop imaging knowledge to support Bayer differentiation and registration strategy, when necessary;
  • Builds and maintains network with academic institutions/diagnostic companies/imaging companies including  CROs in Oncology;
  • Will work closely with IPT leaders /GDLs/CDLs, and the Radiology GCIS team where applicable, to ensure imaging strategy has maximum success rate;
  • Provides via internal and external collaborations the  development of imaging tools for patient selection as well as for  assessing response/effectiveness of drug being developed;
  • Ensures regulatory compliance of imaging activities and drives qualification processes;
  • May present to internal decision making committees, acts as a representative to IPT(s);
  • Incumbent is capable to independently evaluate, interpret and  present results from imaging analyses and draw scientifically valid conclusions that support and enable decision making;
  • The preferred locations for this role are Bayer sites in Cambridge, MA or Whippany, NJ (United States), or Basel (Switzerland).  Relocation may be offered for this role.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must have one of the following: a) Medical doctor (MD or MD/PhD) or imaging scientist (PhD) trained in radiology, nuclear medicine, imaging physics or image analysis including some industry experience, OR b) a Master's
