<p><span><span>In December 2021, we introduced HalZero, a revolutionary CO2-emission free process for producing primary aluminium. By December 2023, we had begun construction of the HalZero Test Facility in Porsgrunn, marking a significant milestone in our sustainability agenda. Our efforts to decarbonize aluminium production were recognized at COP28, where we were honored as an Energy Transition Changemaker. HalZero is just one of many initiatives driving Hydro's commitment to near-zero CO2 aluminium.</span></span></p>
<h2><b></b></h2>
<p><span><span>The Technology and Operational Support (TOS) unit, a group of 280 specialists based in Norway and Germany, plays a pivotal role in realizing these goals. TOS supports Hydro’s commercial and operational units, focusing on profitability and sustainability improvements in the short and medium term, while also leading long-term R&D projects like HalZero.</span></span></p>

<p><span><span>We are now seeking a highly skilled and driven R&D Principal/Project Engineer to join our Technology Development team. In this role, you’ll contribute to the development and industrialization of the HalZero process, working within a multidisciplinary team of leading technologists. You will have the opportunity to engage in pioneering projects central to the success of HalZero. Your expertise may also be applied to other key R&D projects across TOS and Hydro, making a direct impact on our goal of delivering zero CO2 aluminium.</span></span></p>

<h2><b>Main responsibilities</b></h2>
<p>As R&D Principal/Project Engineer your main responsibility is to participate in projects particularly related to Hydro’s sustainability agenda, specifically HalZero. This includes development, evaluation, testing, qualification and implementation of both internally and externally developed technology solutions.</p>
<p><br/>
Main tasks are:</p>
<ul>
<li>Take part in making HalZero an industrialized process for aluminium production. </li>
<li>Focus specially on gas purification, treatment, analysis and handling which are all integral parts of the HalZero technology</li>
<li>Participate in or lead projects related to HalZero</li>
<li>Work together with both internal and external partners/stakeholders </li>
<li>Take part in design, planning and operating relevant technology test facilities, pilots and plants.</li>
</ul>
<h2><b>Desired qualifications</b></h2>
<ul>
<li><span><span>MSc/PhD in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering/Chemistry, Environmental Engineering/Science, Sustainability, Material Science, Physics, Nanotechnology, Inorganic Chemistry, Heterogeneous catalysis</span></span></li>
<li><span><span>Minimum 5-15 years' experience in relevant field</span></span></li>
<li><span><span>Extensive knowledge in gas purification, handling, and treatment processes for industrial applications, with proficiency in advanced gas treatment technologies, including dry and wet scrubbers, absorption towers, PSA, VPSA, gas liquefaction, and membrane systems. </span></span></li>
<li><span><span>Additionally, proficiency in gas analysis methodologies, including the application of cutting-edge techniques, advanced instrumentation, and the development of innovative gas analytical methods. </span></span></li>
<li><span><span>Competence within and experience from one or several points below will be considered beneficial:</span></span></li>
<li><span><span>chlorine and chloride gas systems</span></span></li>
<li><span><span>process design and development related to gas treatment, with a strong foundation
