The International & Channel Development Accounting team supports Starbucks global business through accounting operational support, financial analysis, billing, royalty accounting, reconciliations, financial controls, and compliance activities. The team partners closely with international markets, finance teams, and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure accurate financial reporting while helping drive process improvements that support a growing and evolving business.
Role focus: Own complex accounting processes supporting Starbucks International & Channel Development businesses, drive accurate financial reporting, strengthen financial controls, and lead process improvements through automation, analytics, and technology solutions. Partner with global stakeholders to support business growth while identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, scalability, and insight through data-driven decision making.
As a Senior Accountant, you will…
• Own assigned month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities for International & Channel Development accounting areas, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
• Prepare and review complex journal entries, reconciliations, financial analyses, and supporting documentation in accordance with Starbucks accounting policies and U.S. GAAP.
• Own royalty accounting and international billing processes, including calculation reviews, invoicing, reconciliations, true-up activities, collection follow-up, and financial reporting support for international licensed and channel development businesses.
• Analyze financial results, identify trends and risks, investigate variances, and communicate insights to business partners and leadership.
• Partner closely with international finance teams, tax, treasury, legal, and cross-functional stakeholders to support business initiatives and resolve accounting matters.
• Support accounting assessments for new business models, commercial arrangements, licensing programs, and strategic initiatives.
• Execute and strengthen internal controls while ensuring compliance with SOX and corporate accounting policies.
• Drive process improvements through data analytics, automation, and AI-enabled tools that enhance efficiency, reporting, scalability, and decision-making.
• Develop process documentation, training materials, and best practices that support consistent execution and broader adoption of improved tools and processes across the accounting team.
• Support internal and external audit activities and provide accounting research and analysis as needed.
• Provide guidance and informal leadership to accounting team members while helping elevate team capabilities and knowledge sharing.
We’d love to hear from people with:
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• CPA, CPA candidate, or equivalent professional certification preferred.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, and month-end close processes.
• Experience preparing and reviewing journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial analysis.
• Experience supporting international accounting, royalty accounting, billing processes, intercompany transactions, or multinational operations.
• Experience leading cross-functional projects, business initiatives, or process improvement efforts preferred.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong communication and business partnering skills with the ability to collaborate across functions and global teams.
• Experience driving process improvements through automation, technology solutions, and data-driven insights.
• Experience with ERP and financial systems such as Oracle, BlackLine, SAP, or similar platforms.
• Experience with data analytics, reporting, automation, and AI-enabled tools such as Incorta, Power BI, Microsoft Copilot, or similar technologies.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft 365 applications.
