The Chief Information Officer position exists to provide professional leadership and strategic direction for the Information Technology and Digital Solutions Divisions in supporting the overall mission and objectives of the other Focus on the Family impact centers.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
• Provides and owns the strategic direction and oversight for Information Technology provided services based on the mission and objectives of the organization
• Oversees hardware, software, and data needs to help other members of the C-suite do their jobs effectively
• Serves as a strategic partner to others in the C-suite to develop a strategic vision for the ministry and articulate how IT can transform the organization into the future
• Researches new technologies and associated risk
• Understands the IT industry and stays abreast of emerging technologies, applications, and services
• Oversees organization’s cyber security and network security
• Oversees the technology department
• Understands market forces and reacts to them
• Chooses outside vendors in agreement with other C-suite executives
• Responsible for the entire technology platform for the ministry, including enterprise application software, departmental applications, end user computing devices and applications, call center technology, telephony, wide area and local networks, hardware infrastructure including physical data centers and cloud computing, custom software development, application integrations, enterprise data management, enterprise content management, all constituent-facing web and digital sites and applications, and social media solutions
• Oversees Information Technology governance decisions that include the stewardship of content, data, infrastructure/architecture, and end-user requirements. When conflicts occur, these governance decisions are taken to the C-team by this individual for appropriate resolution
• Oversees ministry-wide reporting and business intelligence services
• Oversees the strategy, design, implementation, support, and hosting of all digital properties for the ministry (websites, mobile applications, media streaming, social media, etc.)
• Develops, implements, and oversees the outsourcing of Information Technology and professional services to other 3rd party providers
• Selects, develops, motivates, supervises, and evaluates immediate staff
• Recommends new ministry initiatives. Advises on and recommends revisions to existing initiatives. Actively participates in the strategic planning cycle
• Participates and presents in Board of Directors meetings if requested
• Oversees IT department strategy, systems, budget and staff. Approves overall staffing levels within budget constraints
• Member of Cabinet and C-suite; Partners with other C level executives in overseeing quality project management and data management
• Participates in budget process; monitors cost performance and initiates cost improvement actions when appropriate
• Resolves highly complex, technical, organizational, and relational problems within assigned departments and between other ministry departments
• Stays abreast of Information Technology industry trends and business developments through research and study
Managerial Breadth/Scope of Job:
• Manages a staff of 50+ IT and Digital Solutions employees, including 3-5 direct reports plus offshore software team(s)
