Additional Job Description:
The Medical Director of Urgent Care will work with WVU Health System (WVUHS) hospitals and associated entities to provide high quality and high value Urgent Care services. Serves as a bridge between WVUHS quality efforts and system-wide improvement initiatives with various urgent care programs with regard to efficiency, quality, throughput, and staffing efforts. Collaborate with appropriate leadership, clinical, operational, and financial staffs to achieve WVUHS and Urgent Care performance goals.
The Medical Director of Urgent Care will further develop the positive, mutually supportive relationships between the West Virginia University Health System and its constituents, and other potential business partners not presently identified. This position will work closely with both administrative staff and members of the professional staff and its leadership to maintain the high quality of the staff and to help their participation in furthering the mission of the organization.
Under the direction of the WVUHS Medical Group President and CEO and the WVUHS CMO, the Medical Director of Urgent Care will be a spokesperson for WVU Medicine and, when appropriate, the WVU Health Sciences Center in discussions and institutional planning events as they apply to professional staff relations and management services.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION,'CERTIFICATION, AND/ORLICENSURE:
1. Medical Degree and Board Certification in primary care specialty.
2. Active medical licensure through the West Virginia Board of Medicine or Board of Osteopathic Medicine and other states as appropriate for work assignments.
EXPERIENCE:
1. Minimum of seven years of experience in a healthcare setting is required.
2. Minimum of three years of management experience.
3. Minimum of three years of Urgent Care experience.
PREFERRED: QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Minimum of five years of urgent care experience
2. Experience with recruitment, assessing urgent care service staffing models, and quality improvement.
CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES: The statement described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. They are not intended to be constructed as an all-inclusive list of responsibilities and duties. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Administrative - approximately 80% effort. Provides development, management and leadership skills to the Urgent Care services in partnership with regional leadership contracting for urgent care medicine services.
2. Clinical Practice - approximately 20% effort. Practices or provides direct administrative oversight of high-quality clinical urgent care in a manner typical of our professional staff that includes use of the electronic medical record, billable services, and teaching. As appropriate and reasonable, obtain privileges at hospitals served by the WVUHS Medical Group urgent care service to periodically work urgent care medicine shifts to understand operations at these serviced hospitals.
3. Provides input to Human Resources (HR) office and institutional leaders on best practices for recruitment, retention, and onboarding of physicians and associate medical staff, and engages in the recruitment and retention of urgent care providers.
4. Works to understand and optimize workplace satisfaction. Maintains regular interactions with the professional staff and other stakeholders to enhance relationships and integration.
5. Supports the growth and development of WVUHS Urgent Care service contracts in primary, secondary, and tertiary markets.
