WORK WEEK SCHEDULE

Monday-Friday (occasional evenings and weekends) Position is available for a Hybrid Telework workweek

 

POSITION PURPOSE:

Serves as a Safety Administrator for Wake County Public School System (WCPSS). Ensures achievement in safety, injury, and loss prevention performance goals and establishing sound work practices at schools and departmental worksites. Assists the Senior Administrator to support the safety program that it is consistent with all applicable State and Federal laws related to workplace and the school environment safety within WCPSS. Ensures the delivery of proactive, in lieu of reactive, safety protection services specifically aimed at reducing the District’s risk. Assists in the implementation of all corrective action plans relative to fire and life and occupational health and safety issues.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES(KSAs)

  • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point; Google Apps;

  • Considerable knowledge of OSHA laws, regulations, principles theories, and practices;

  • Ability to understand and explain laws, regulations, and procedures;

  • Working knowledge of basic fire protection and suppression equipment;

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;

  • Ability to work in a team environment and independently when required; interact with all levels of staff and management with diplomacy and tact;

  • Ability to provide and deliver effective training, presentations, and communication to a variety of audiences;

  • Ability to have sensitivity to legal responsibilities regarding potential health hazards and matters of a sensitive or confidential nature;

  • Ability to identify potential workplace hazards and recommend solutions;

  • Ability to prioritize and perform a number of ongoing projects in a multi-disciplinary cross departmental environment;

  • Ability to conduct investigations; document information and prepare accurate and concise written reports; develop and maintain recordkeeping systems and procedures;

  • Ability to multitask and adapt to changing demands and priorities;

  • Ability to conduct problem analyses and make recommendations;

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, vendors, contractors, external agencies, and the community.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Associate’s degree in fire science, occupational safety and health, or related field; AND

  • Three years’ experience in fire and life safety or occupational health and safety; OR

  • Other combinations of education, experience, and training which provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform effectively in the position.

 

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to obtain OSHA General Industry Regulation training (10-hour or 30-hour course); Fire and Life Safety, Occupational Safety and Health, Accident Investigation training;

  • Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license according to the State of NC requirements.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of OSHA General Industry 10-hour or 30-hour course;

  • Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) certification;

  • Three to five years of experience in Risk Management and Insurance, Safety Management, Safety Engineering, Fire and Life Safety, Occupational Health and Safety, or related field.
