The position oversees staff in the Climate Change and Equity Branch in Sustainability and leads the development and implementation of the City’s Climate Change Adaptation Strategy. This position plays a leadership role in guiding the City’s adaptation efforts, integrating equity into the City’s climate work, and working with senior staff from other organizations and levels of government.</p> <p> </p> <p>Specific Duties &amp; Responsibilities </p> <p>The Manager, Climate Adaptation and Equity oversees the development and implementation of policies, programs and strategies related to climate adaptation and climate equity. This position provides leadership and direction to a team of specialists. The team delivers climate-related programs that enable and accelerate climate adaptation, and coordinate efforts by other departments to advance adaptation. This position directly oversees work related to rainwater management on the private realm as well as coastal adaptation planning. </p> <p> </p> <p>In addition, this position is responsible for overseeing the integration of equity, guided by the City’s Equity Framework, into climate policy and actions. As part of this role, this position is responsible for human resource and performance management matters, budgeting and resource allocation as it pertains to climate adaptation and equity, and responds to emergent opportunities and requests from the Corporate Leadership Team, Council and the City Manager.</p> <p> </p> <p>Specifically this position:</p> <ul> <li>Leads a team and manages a budget that supports the Climate Change Adaption Strategy.</li> <li>Leads a team and manages a budget that supports integration of equity in the City’s climate work. </li> <li>Co-leads the policy development for rainwater management on the private realm.</li> <li>Acts for the Director of Sustainability on an as-needed basis.</li> </ul> <p> </p> <p>This position also regularly represents the City of Vancouver publicly and in the media related to the Sustainability Group’s mandate.</p> <p> </p> <p>This position also performs other duties/responsibilities as assigned.</p> <p> </p> <p>Qualifications </p> <p>Education and Experience:</p> <ul> <li>University graduation in planning, engineering or environmental science/geography</li> <li>A minimum of ten years of professional project planning and management as well as leadership experience in progressively senior related roles.  </li> <li>A familiarity with local government processes </li> <li>Strong depth of knowledge in climate and equity</li> <li>Demonstrated experience and success:  <ul> <li>leading and managing teams, </li> <li>developing strategic partnerships, </li> <li>leading change within large organisations, </li> <li>working across a range of climate and equity-related projects and programs, </li> <li>building compelling business cases and recommendations, </li> <li>developing and leading public and stakeholder engagement processes, and</li> <li>collaborating with and making recommendations to executive decision makers.  </li> </ul> </li> </ul> <p> </p> <p>Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:</p> <ul> <li>Strong facilitation skills, with the ability to bring together people with a diverse set of interests, styles and areas of expertise, and align them toward a unified goal.</li> <li>An aptitude for and interest in learning about a wide variety of topics.</li> <li>Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to concurrently manage multiple tasks and competing priorities.</li> <li>Superior written communication, verbal communication and presentation skills, as well as a high level of competency in office productivity tools and technology.</li> <li>Effective communicator with strong influencing, negotiation, and relationship building skills.</li> <li>Demonstrated leadership skills, balancing independence, initiative and decisiveness with good judgement and a collaborative approach.</li> <li>Ability to develop plans that advan
