Department Summary

The BioAnalytical Facility (BAF) within the Division of Research & Innovation is a research lab facility that provides metabolomics services to support researchers both at UNT and externally.

Position Overview

The BAF Hourly Research Assistant will work closely with the BioAnalytical Facility staff Research Coordinator and Research Lab Manager to assist with metabolomics and mass spectrometry research services, and will help in implementing the BAF library with 4,000 standards.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences, Chemistry, or related field.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of basic research standards, techniques, and methods used in routine research.
• Knowledge of basic and specialized scientific equipment.
• Knowledge of health, safety, and security precautions in keeping with type of research being done.
• Ability to adapt or modify apparatus, equipment, or research protocols to accomplish research goals.
• Skill in conducting tests and measurements.
• Skill in collection and organization and presentation of research information.

Preferred Qualifications

Work experience in a BioAnalytical Facility

Job Duties:

• Write scripts to process untargeted metabolomic data.
• Expand the BAF in-house untargeted metabolomics library.
• Assist with sample preparation and mass-spectrometry analyses.
• Implement standard operating procedures for untargeted metabolomics.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm
