RII is looking for a committed Staff Accountant to join our Finance & Accounting team to solve unique, challenging problems for our Defense and Homeland Security customers. The Staff Accountant is responsible for assisting in the recording of transactions into the project/general ledger, preparation of financial reports to track the organization’s assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities, and other related financial activities. Get s#it done. 
Role will be hybrid with 2-3 days in the office in Alexandria and 2-3 days working remotely.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

  • Perform all payroll related duties – timesheets completion and approval follow ups, labor reconciliations, assisting employees with charge codes access, and coordinating payroll with HR and external PEO, and recording payroll journal entries.
  • Process accounts payable & receivable, reconciles accounts, maintain files, and assist in the monthly closing activities.
  • Reconcile bank accounts at least monthly, verify deposits, record cash application to receivables, and address inquiries from banks. 
  • Reconcile customer accounts and support accounts receivable collections.
  • Assist in maintaining the general ledger and fixed asset register.
  • Assist in providing documents/responses to outside accountants for annual tax/review/audit preparation.
  • Assist in annual local license and tax preparation (PPT & BPOL) 
  • Assist in preparing periodic/monthly balance sheets, profit & loss statements.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU HAVE DONE

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in the government contracting industry including cost accounting practices preferred.
  • Experience within the Payroll-/Compensation- cycle is required.
  • Related experience with accounting and financial reporting
  • Detail oriented and strong documentation skills.
  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work in an ambiguous environment with multiple initiatives and changing priorities.

EVEN BETTER

  • Strong working knowledge of US GAAP requirements preferred.
  • Experience with various contract types (Fixed Price, Cost Plus, and T&M) preferred.
  • Experience with prevalent industry tools such as Costpoint and Unanet preferred.
