Starting salary for this position is: $42.05 - $89.48 per hour based on workload category.
This is an adjunct (part-time) position. Compensation will be pro-rated according to the amount of workload assigned. Spokane Colleges reserves the right to cancel this recruitment without notice. Academic employees are represented by the Association of Higher Education (AHE), which is affiliated with NEA and WEA. Membership is optional.
About Us
The Adult Basic Education Division seeks a qualified adjunct instructor to join our student-centered division committed to educational access, equity, and student success. In partnership with SCC’s Apprenticeship Department, we are looking for an instructor to teach the following content:
- Construction math
- Career exploration within the construction trades
- Application, resume, portfolio development
- Construction trades soft skills
- Financial literacy basics
Additionally, the instructor will facilitate guest speakers with apprenticeship partners and coordinate external trainings provided by the partners.
This position which begins Fall 2026 is an in person teaching assignment, primarily day time, with the option of evening and alternate hours for non-instructional duties as needed.

About the Skilled Trades Preparation Instructor - Adjunct - Spokane Community College
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepares for and instructs courses in the disciplines offered within Adult Basic Education, specifically with the Skilled Trades Preparation program.
- Assesses, monitors, and documents student performance and attendance and advises students in meeting their educational goals by evaluating student progress and providing clear and timely feedback
- Communicates expectations and establishes clear grading criteria through appropriate instructional means, to include, but not limited to, developing course syllabi, handouts, and materials supporting the instructional process.
- Complies with state and federal law applicable to professional duties and responsibilities. Follows established procedures in areas such as printing, submitting grades, attendance reporting, BEdA (Basic Education for Adults) reporting, office support, safety and health issues, and related administrative processes.
- Models professional decorum and mutual respect in all personal interactions.
- Create lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessments aligned with the program outcomes.
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment for diverse learners including students with various educational backgrounds.
- Participate in program meetings, advisory input, and continuous improvement efforts.
- Complies with district policy, procedures and directives, state and federal regulations, orders and statute and collective bargaining agreements.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
- Teaching experience
- Ability to use technology for instruction purposes
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of the apprenticeship system
- Experience teaching math to various levels of learners
- Ability to build strong partnerships with apprenticeship programs
