The Cell Therapy Thematic Research Center is one of BMS’s differentiated research platforms delivering innovative therapies to patients. Our mission is to drive leadership in the use of cellular therapies to harness the power of the immune system in treating hematologic malignancies, solid cancers, and autoimmune disease. More specifically, our discovery and translational scientists are focused on developing next-generation, engineered cell-based therapies. The team is committed to discovering and developing transformative therapies that harness the power of the immune system to improve patient outcomes.

Position Summary:

The Gene Engineering and Delivery team in the Cell Therapy Thematic Research Center is seeking a highly motivated scientist to advance next-generation cancer immunotherapies through molecular design, viral vector engineering, and gene delivery innovation. This role will focus on designing, cloning, characterizing, and producing viral vector constructs that enable development of CAR T cell therapies. The ideal candidate brings strong molecular biology expertise, hands-on cell culture experience, and a collaborative, problem-solving mindset in a fast-paced research environment.

Key Deliverables:

  • Execute molecular design and cloning of complex DNA constructs for cell therapy applications.

  • Demonstrate competency in mammalian cell culture, transfection, and transduction of primary T cells.

  • Develop molecular engineering designs and assays that support gene delivery and viral vector characterization.

  • Produce viral vectors to enable gene delivery workflows and experimental evaluation.

Position Responsibilities:

In the role as a Senior Associate Scientist within the Gene Engineering and Delivery team, the ideal candidate will:

  • Design and clone DNA constructs to support CAR T cell therapy development.

  • Culture mammalian cell lines for viral vector production, assessment, and gene delivery applications.

  • Set up and run molecular characterization and cellular assays to evaluate viral vector performance.

  • Develop, optimize, and document viral vector production and characterization protocols.

  • Designs and executes experiments based on protocols.

  • Collaborate with team members to assess the technical feasibility of novel gene delivery methods.

  • Analyzes and interprets experimental data.

  • Works within established procedures and in loosely defined problem-solving situations.

  • Actively participates in troubleshooting of routine problems and initiatives related to continuous improvement or development of new approaches/technologies.

  • Works under minimal supervision for both routine activities and non-routine activities.

  • Makes decisions that impact own work and other group/team members.
